Prawny Baby
there seems to be some misunderstanding, i never set out to compare my type r with his car and i have not gone on about how good a type r is blah blah, i don't come on here bragging about my car like some persons on here, not mentioning names.. i simply pointed out the bhp figures and 0-60 top speed figures were wildly over estimated in his first post, and i asked him to explain, he changed his explanation several times in an attempt to save face but has proven himself to be a pete wright aka "truth bender"! i don't care for a photo of an escort, i've proven my point that he bent the truth(don't want to say lied incase he starts crying again) about his figures but then he started bigging up an mr2 that he doesn't even own..and then started the spam.. ← ill go along with that phill.... his initial bhp figures and performance stats do seema little OTT what i dont agree with though, is your calculation for transmission losses.... did you say take away 10% then add 10bhp to that? or something along those lines.... theres so much more to it than that!!!! it all depends on the box, transfer gears, wheel size.... my current mini gearbox looses over 26bhp from the crank to the wheels! yet a well built standard box can loose as little as 15bhp, throw in a straight cut gear set and a set of straight cut drop gears and that figure could come down to 10bhp.... thers no way of telling how much a box will loose.... ive heard that there have been mini boxes built with such care and attention to detail that as little as 5-7 bhp as been lost.... general equations dont really work in the auto world do they.... that said, i followed a type R home tonight, and it truely is a LOVELY car on a totally seperate note though.... pete wright now lives about 30mins from me  i see him regularly! madness

If you are starting from a wheel bhp figure then you have to apply those equations in reverse - add 10 bhp then divide by 0.9 for FWD or 0.88 for RWD to get back to a flywheel figure. it worked on mine and two other type r's, clio 182,seat leon cupra and ford focus rs that attended the dyno day and was correct within 1-2 bhp each time. the666ers
Just a little idea, why change the wheels? Whats wrong with those ones??? It's a fantastic car as it is, and is designed to use those wheels so will undoubtably not be as good with different sized wheels. Even if you got the same sizes what's the point in changing them for something that looks different? I just see it as a waste of money. If you want to do it then fairplay but I can't see it looking any better, it's great as it is and theres no point kevving a lovely car like that. What wheels are you intending to put on? If it looks fantastic and doesnt loose you any money I'll retract all of the above. James

James ← yeah no worries, i agree, the fact is the current tyres(bridgestone potenza) are shite and cause snap oversteer and are the main gripe of every type r driver, i got offerred a set of 18's with pirelli pzero nero tyres that will have almost the same rolling radius as these and are lighter than the standard ones but for cheaper than a new set of tyres for the 17's so i thought what the hell! so the originals will be for track and 18's for road! i confused myself explainig that! besides wheels and suspension aren't kevvie, its when you cross the line to bodykits and neons you spoil it! cheers Edited May 1, 2005 by phil white
Prawny Baby
agreed :S getting decnet boots and suspension to handle the bumps is all about getting the power down to the road in the msot efficient way possible!!!! its not kevvie, its all about making the bastards look stupid! and that is a SERIOUSLY nice car.... wheels are a funny thing.... on a mini, bigger is BAD, the smaller the better for handling!!!! yet on my mums a3, it was running on 15'' alloys with 195 cheap tyres, we changed these for a set of 8x17 tt alloys with 225 continental tyres and the difference is INCREDIBLE, its literally a different car, its much mroe responsive, more stable at all speeds, and the sheer grip on a roundabout is astouding!!!! at the end of the day, its how it goes that counts  my mini did 119mph today :D:D

the666ers
Cool that's fine, I just thought you were going out spending mega bucks replacing already excellent wheels. But yeah tyres are rape. I bought some wheels for my golf because it's cheaper as you said, and I totally agree with the suspension thing and that. I'll be lowering my golf on alloys and subtling it all so yeah. Lets see it afterwards :S James
