Swindon rider
Right I'm buying a Mac mini too, the 142 Ghz one, I'm upgrading the HDD to 80gb, Ram to 512mb, getting the Bluetooth upgrade and the Apple Bluetooth key board and mouse. Any way i've got a few simple questions, which I can't answer because I know nothing about computers. Can you run any type of screen with it? as in this one.... http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/in...oduct_uid=62804 Also, I have Broadband on my PC, how can I get it wirelessly onto my Mac mini? Stu EDIT: Oh and can I use any old web cam on a Mac? Are they a case of plug them in or do they need a special operating program? Tomm
Can you run any type of screen with it? as in this one.... http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/in...oduct_uid=62804 Yeah, that's fine. I think the Mac comes with an adapter for VGA monitors (like that one). Best check though, or you might have to buy the adapter (should be dirt cheap). Also, I have Broadband on my PC, how can I get it wirelessly onto my Mac mini? ← You need a Wireless access point (WAP) or a wireless router. And something for the mac - I think Apple calls it airport or something gay? :S
dirtbiker
You'll need the Airport Express card (£49) and a wireless access point like Tom said. I'm still keen to get one, just need to get the money together now... :S
Haz
or you might have to buy the adapter (should be dirt cheap). ← Comes with it, free. :P Even though nothing is free... :S
DJ Phaze
right so if i want to be able to take work from uni to home and vice versa i need to have a normal pc with xp on it... ← No, you need an Operating System which supports an *identical* or *as-good-as* program which you have at Uni/Home. Use OpenOffice.org for your files (which is M$ Office compatable....) as OO.org runs on XP, Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris and MacOSX......... beat that M$ for cross-platform compatability!!! :: Phaze ::
JonMack
Hey Chris, just incase you were wondering, this is how you can open up the Mac Mini to add more RAM and... Apple states that as long as you do not BREAK your Mac Mini while working on the inside, it is still covered under warranty. A quote from this article, which compares the Mac Mini to a cheap Dell PC... a very interesting read. So heres the link with a link to the video on how to do it. http://www.smashsworld.com/2005/01/taking-...mini-how-to.php

It's clearly written by a mac bummer, and everyone knows Dells are pretty shit anyway. If you were going to compare like-for-like, you wouldn't do what he's done. Dunno about anyone else but I can't ever remember my Dell crashing, had it for over 2.5 years and it's always been dandy, could do with a little bit more ram but that's nowt to do with Dell. Danny
Shame the power brick on them is huge :(
biketrialler
In my first ever posted defense of an apple product... Nobody notices the size of the power brick as you hide it down behind a desk. I wish my shuttle had an external power brick as it'd scale the case down by a few inches depth and I wouldnt notice the power brick anyway - but would still have more desk space! xx. Danny
But whys the power button on the back :( It uses laptop hard/disk drives aswell to save space :-
Haz
But whys the power button on the back :( It uses laptop hard/disk drives aswell to save space :- ← Surely the people it's aimed at arn't really going to notice to much the slightly slower speeds from their hard drive? People seem to have this idea it should be all powerful and mighty, but most people on here know about sacraficing speed for size, in the same way with a bike frame you sacrafice strength for weight. Also, I think, for it to really fill it's purpose, you have to have all to possible wireless options, Bluetooth and Airport, because it is really designed to sit, be out of the way without taking up desk space for people that need to have an easy machine to e-mail, write letters liten to music. not eally to reel out huge 3d software. Thats still not put me off buying a PowerBook though! ( Rumour sites are saying that there could be new ones out soon...) ← "Media Jamming" - where someone copies a website/advert/other form of media - and completely changes the intended message. I.E - the website layout is the same as http://www.apple.com - but the text is not what you would expect.... A trick used by website defacers, if they wish to portray a message on their victims website. Eg. microsoft.com displaying links to Linux distribution downloads.... or a Butcher's website, with links to Vegitarian sites.... get the picture?
