fatpants.....

If it's definintely a full 4130 cromo frame and fork it's probably worth having if everything's in good working order. If you can't be sure of the model I wouldn't touch it unless the price went back down to £50

they do various versions of their bikes .. EL (semi shite) IL? (medium good ) and PL (goood - see tall rob's post in FS/wtd for a lovely example)

There's probably enough bits available from people on here to put together a fairly cheap bike and people will at least know what they've bought - just steer clear of the pashley 20mhz frames cos they ride like horseshit and weigh a f**king ton.

Which is the best half link chain out of Shadow and the KHE ?

My shadow v2 seems fine after over 6 months - it rubs on an odyssey MDS and costs too much though.

My question.

Where the hell are the PLEGS? we were promised them early 2007 and it's now mid 2007.

bastards, I want guilt free grinding

I gave up with waiting for them. Good idea in theory but nah, not for me i'm guessing. Like i said before, they will make a lame noise and won't spark.

Not to mention that with Odyssey's current track record with their new parts, the first batch is going to be balls anyway? I really, really don't trust the fact that the plastic parts aren't supported along their full length, and the fact that they won't give a real answer to "How long will they last?" I know it's hard to say, but the fact that even G-Sport admitted that they'd have a faster wear rate than normal pegs leads me to believe they're going to piss away on anything other than coping?

Regarding half-link chains, the cheapest one is a 510HX or similar with a single half-link from a Shadow Conspiracy V2 chain, or just a decent half-link from any normal BMX shop.

plegses

I still want to try them for the following reasons -

pegging myself in the legs will hurt less

they'd contribute greatly to my weenie mission

I wont feel guilty about grinding the back of the commemorative benches on the towpath between here and the pub

I reckon they'll hurt your dropouts a lot less than steel pegs

if i hit the end of a bottom bracket axel (profile wanabe style axel!) with a hammer then the crank arm wont go back on...does that mean i fudged it?

well, you should use a copper hammer or a rubber hammer so that you can't damage the splines on the end of the axle. These hammers are softer than the axle and won't damage it. You could have just damaged the axle a tiny tiny bit and it's preventing the crank from going on. Inspect it witha magnifying glass really carefully and get a tiny file (b&q do files with edges as thin as paper... and take off any tiny flat spots in the axle splines on the end until the splines run along the alxe and off the end smoothly and evenly.

is anywhere still doing the old odyssey dirt forks for £50 ?

i put pegs back on and the weenie mission is ruined :(

I'm running 'normal' pegs and my bike is still light. But you have to go Ti, which costs money. Or just buy some Ti, WTP or Colony pegs.

As for the forks. Here.

They have Sunday as well. £70 for Pitchfork XLT's! Bargain. You know you want to come join me on an axle bending and snapping session :- My Primo hub axle is already bent, yay for 10mm :P

nice one - is the shop legit? they have silly prices

I think ill get the sundays - they're a over pound lighter than my pitchforks and they're a half pound lighter than the older odyssey jobs.

going 10mm? I'm not even going to dignify that with a response:p

Yeah i think that shops legit.

I have never ordered anything from there but the kid who owns it has an account on bikeguide so i don't think it's a con or owt.

The shop is fully legit. It is closed on Mondays though, which sucks as i went there when i was in Bristol.

bellends - I was all fired up to buy them tomorrow.

I'm f**ked if I know what to do about weenie pegs, the colony ones are ally so they'll last rougly 30 seconds longer than it takes to find a nice brick wall to grind at, jpeg lites seem to look really stupid, there's no way on earth im spending £120 on a set of Ti pegs and the WTP ones won't save enough weight to make it worthwhile.

knockers :(

ill wait for plegs

You'll still be twatting yourself in the leg with a tube though, and it won't yield at all, so it won't feel any nicer.

They'll be lighter probably, and they'll leave fewer marks theoretically, but yeah, they have the steel (or alu?) "slug" that goes near the dropout so you're still boned regardless.

To whoever wanted to know my TT length - it's 21", but with a 69° seat angle so it feels like a 20.75"TT bike with regular geometry.

CrucialBMX won't be getting my custom, just because I really don't like how their owner operates, especially on Bikeguide.

EDIT: Oh, and "Woo" 'cos I did (not in one line...) a straight hop up a 7set and up a long 6set, half-cabbed down a long 5set, fakie hopped down a long 4set, and did a wall-over-bin gap, and have a rail gap planned for tomorrow. Been actually progressing recently, it's been cool!

jesus Mark. you're a student ffs, if you're up at 7:30 in the morning it better be cos you spent all of last night either wrapped up in a student nurse or out taking something chemical based - my taxes are paying for your education and I'll not have you squandering my hard earned wonga on learning.

crucial will be receiving my money because I only want to pay £40 for sunday forks - I don't have a particularly high opinion of the owner because he puts an apostrophe in sprockets, bars, wheels, frames etc etc. but at those prices I can handle dealing with an idiot.

Question:

Will be getting a custom frame. But unsure on the geo. Having only rode 2 'real' bmx frames i'm really unsure.

Problem being my first frame felt alot longer than my newer one. Same tt though. Just slight back end difference.

So i know that a 13.75 back end is what i need.

As they were both severly different in weight, one frame would obviously feel better than the other no matter what the geo. So i'm stuck really.

I'm pretty sure a 20.75tt length would be ideal to keep the frame slightly longer for hops and manuals but not affect the flickiness too much.

But, having one frame 75HA and 71SA and the other 74.5HA and 71SA the top tube will vary. So a 20.75tt on a 75HA would actually feel slighty shorter practically. This is correct, yeah? Or will i need a slightly longer tt length to make it an actuall 20.75. 20.875 is listed so i guess that is what i'm riding.

Also the head angle. I've noticed how much twitchier the steering is on a 75HA. It is suppost to make nose manuals easier but i really don't know?

Maybe i'm going to get the tape measure out now and have a play.

personally I wouldn't piss about with it.

if you're happy with the LAF just rip the geometry straight off that and add a couple of refinements you think you might like - eg. grindplates on the stays or under your dropouts (see george french's bike ) - you'll be losing pound and a bit in weight if you're doing what I assume you're doing so the bike's going to feel mental without a change in geo.

I believe they measure the tt length by actually measuring the tube - rather than using a formula to give you an "effective" tt length so if they quote 20.75, that's the length of the tube. which is affected by it's angle, the headangle and the seattube angle. That's all according to something I read so it could be bollocks
