eskimo
Check the bmx pics thread And a bit of a heads up (thanks to Sponge ), the Odyssey plastic pedals are now availible from Pijin (who are currently out of stock, and we were told they might have some back in stock in a few weeks) and Winstanleys who have some 9/16 in and are currently getting more 1/2 in i think, so snap them up while you can Whats the deal with the plastic pedals? I thought about giving them a try. What standard of grip do they give?
Biff...
Aren't they all anodised, meaning rawing would be kinda hard? But yeah, whatcha got?just caustic soda them will turn raw in 5 mins and luk mint
A!!
Whats the deal with the plastic pedals? I thought about giving them a try. What standard of grip do they give? I'm not too sure to be completely honest, but a lot of top riders seem to be running them, many that do a lot of grinding and are fairly harsh riders, so i'm guessing they are pretty durable. I'm sure i saw Scotty Cranmer using some in that cement park session video, and Mike Brennan uses them if you look at his bike check on Bmx online, as well as other riders such as Ian Schwartz, so yeah you get the picture. The main reason i orderd them is because i really don't like metal pedals, 'cause when it comes to tricks when i hop back in i always beat my shins to pieces, so the plastic ones will be a bit easier on my shins. Plus they are lighter than most standard metal ones, and i'm a bit of a weight whore The only thing i think they might be a bit bad for is riding in the wet, if the plastic studs have been ground down a lot from pedal grind stuff, but i don't really do that anyway so they should be fine. But when i get mine i will put something up here about them, and tell you what i think, but for £10 you really can't go wrong. Ali C
I have a question...........why do I suck so much at bmxing?seriously though, I grew up doing all kinds of riding, trials, dh, xc, dirt jump so I always considered myself a failry decent all rounder. Get me on a bmx and point a ramp at me though and it all goes tits up! Name a trick and I cant do it! even riding the ramps scares the shit out of me.I think its the speed and tyre hardness I cant get used to, the bike reacts totally different to anything else trials wise.Another thing is I get easily intimidated around better riders, even if (as in most cases) they are younger than me. I think being good at trials has made me used to feeling a bit high and mighty (not in a big headed way!!), boshing me on a bike I cant do shit on in front of really good kids isnt somthing I am used to, it kinda knocks you down a peg.anyway, I am still tempted to get a proper bmx, but every time I go out I'll feel depressed about being shit, I am not looking forward to learning stuff either, looks a bit painful if I come off and could take away trialsin time.Pah, I love trials sooooooooo much more, I think I like to watch bmx more than I like to ride it. At least want to try it. 1 week today and she's mine The timing is right. I've got a student loan to burn, a 5 month summer and no exams, living 5 mins away from a wicked outdoor skatepark. It's gonna be a real challenge and satisfying to learn stuff i reckon. On the bike i'm on at the moment I can't inch hunt (being a 24"!) yet I can't really do the stuff i see from bmx and want to smash into my trialsy lines (spins etc) without being limited by the bike. So i'm not progressing really. Plus i reckon if i get my bmx fix then i'll do more trialsy stuff on my trials bike and actually be more motivated to go out and see what I can carry over. eskimo
I have a question...........why do I suck so much at bmxing?................................................I find it's the fact that bmxers tend to be really arrogant. Showing off is something we all like to do with our friends. But some riders just make it their sole mission to comp out whatever i/we're/you're trying. But it's good being able to tech well than the other bmxers as it gives you something to fall back on when their being right comp's.Learn what you want. Bmx isn't all ramps. I've kind of noticed that as well, don't get me wrong though, there are a lot of sound people in bmxing, it just doesn't seem the same as riding with a group of trials riders, but i guess it would if you were with the right group of bmxers. As for the whole coming off and getting hurt thing, thats one of the reasons i started trials when i was younger, because there was something about bmxing that i thought if i started it i would end up busting myself up real bad, but so far (touch wood) i haven't come off too bad, it's just a confidence thing. And yeah, you don't have to be boosting the biggest ramps at your park to be good, nor do you even have to ride park. Get a bmx and do your own thing, it's one of the beautys of it 'cause you can just have your own style and do what you want.
kells
I find that trials riders are way more competitive and up them selves than any bmxers ive ever met. On the big group rides on trials bikes i went on they were a lot more arrogant and serious than bmxers, the bmxers ive come across are alot more relaxed and you can have a better laugh with. CurtisRider
i've just started bmxing again, and its fricking awesome, like you ali, i found it really hard coming from a trialsy background , but loads of people have commented positively on my style cos i'm so hoppy and *tech, whereas most kids just seem to be getting loads of big air with no style, so yeah, find your own style and keep at it.you will ride it like a trials bike for a little while (well i did) but soon you will work out what the pegs are for and rely less on your brakes, then get on your trials bike, fall off, and wonder how the feck to ride it, took me ages to lean how to jump from 1 bike to the other!*read try to be tech whilst i'm here....quick questions, a friends looking for a new 25t sprocket, the one on his khe keeps bending, what do you recommend? preferably something thick/with a bash, i'm currently running a 25t profile blade and have smashed it lots with no troubles, but alot of people don't seem to rate them?allllso, got some s'n'm pro race bars, same geo as slams but FAR lighter, is there any other bars with the same geo but not as heavy as slams, yet not as scarily light as pro races?annnnd, need to rebuild my rear wheel, any spoke suggestions? my last ones kept snapping at the heads when grinding walls, even though my macneil hubs not supposed to let them do that

It costs a fair bit, and i haven't spoke to anyone that has had one, but it sure looks pretty tough, and comes in 25t, 28t and 30t. If you really want to go all out, you can buy another guard for the other side, so nothings going to get to your chain or sprocket. Just spent a while filing down my seat tube, so when i get my new pedals be on the look out for some new pics . I think i might be buying an Animal GLH tyre for the rear soonish as well, 'cause the Fit one i have on the back has loads of cracks in it and is pretty much bald. poopipe
I've finally ended the working life of my poor gusset front hub so I popped down to billys and got me a homer for the front ( £40 - bargain )Obviously I need a shiny new rim to go with it so I have the following questions....anyone heard terrible things about the 6000 series primo balance rims? if so shall I get a big city lite or hazard lite ? what about the proper rims?will I get away with running the same rims on the back ? I might as well order a back one for when the new KHE coasters arrivewhat kind of spokes do I want these days? and how do you stop your little toe getting bruised when learning footjams? I might as well order a back one for when the new KHE coasters arrivewhat kind of spokes do I want these days? and how do you stop your little toe getting bruised when learning footjams? My rear rim is a Primo balance 6000 series, and i have had no problems with it yet, and it has stayed true pretty well (and it's 36h), so yeah so far so good, it's light as well. But i am a pretty smooth rider and also pretty light. The only little problem i did have was where the holes had been drilled out, it hadn't been cleaned out properly so there was shards of metal that would drop into the tyre when i did a big hop etc etc.., then slash it to peices (took me a while to find out where all the flats were coming from haha). So i took it off and took a screw driver to the little shards to remove them, and i then put two layers of rim tape in just to avoid another flat.As for the footjams, it's a bitch isn't it haha. I was doing footjam whips a lot yesterday and my little toe got bruised (as well as nearly ripping my fingernail off). But i did find when i was doing them that if you tie your shoes up tight, it stops your feet from moving forward and backwards, so you stop hitting your toes into the fork when you come to a stop, so it seemed to help. It was something i noticed Eddie Cleveland does in the how to Footjam whip video.Edit: got them sorted now : Edited April 9, 2007 by huck_it
poopipe
I can do those (sometimes). I do them the wrong way round though cos I'm weird - towards my back foot side like a downwhip rather than towards my front foot side.I was talking about your standard footjam nosepick on raised ledgey type things - I've got every bit up to riding away sorted now but the sore toe thing is hindering my progress. I've sprained my pigging little finger as well which doesn't help mattersanyway. Since nobody says the balance rims are shite I think I'll buy some
eskimo
The balance rim isn't eyeletted. Most rims aren't now but just a heads up if your spokes are stronger than your rim.Footjams, i tend to use my foot at a 45 degree angle when jaming on a 1/4. But with the whips i tend to land on my foot at a 90 degree angle. Same goes for downside ones as well.Oh i fogot, as for the spokes, Prolite x50 for a fiver which will my choice on next wheels. Also Prolite feather lights. Primo spokes tend to be alright. Generally they all snap. Perhaps some Gsport ones?

Any idea where I'm going to be able to find out what length spokes I need for a homer front hub on a hazard lite? I thought I might give wheelbuilding a rag (i'll give up halfway through and take it the nice wheelbuilding man but you know, it's a nice idea)leedstrials - I reckon you're best off getting another £50 together and getting a 4 seasons - they're good value and most people love em. Otherwise - mirraco and hoffman are probably worth a look -I like the DK completes for some reason but I may be alone there.

Looking at the Eastern element at the moment or a Mongoose legion (in the sale at alans)ThanksI couldn't find the Eastern element. Perhaps they've sold out at Alans. The Moongoose looks alright. With an Odyssey cassette with 1 piece driver it definatly has one of the best wheels a stock bike can hold. Also with Ryno light rims for extra weight saving not bad. Although most of the stock bikes now come with them. Perhaps as there single wall and cheaper to produce. All in all £300 for full chromo frame, forks and bars it's definatly a good buy. I would remove the stickers though Poopipe 184mm 99% sure for a 48h 4 cross wheel.Oh i ordered some cheapo Prolite spokes in black. 100 for a tenner. I'll let you know how they go. And also a big city light rim. Why why why
