eskimo
my "bottom bracket" keep cumming loose?its a 3 peice crank, but it doesnt seem to be sealed? anyway to stop this? also anybody got ne help on nailing wips?, i can get the bike to spin but i send my legs to far away and land in pile on the floor:(I'm not really a whip person but when you take off don't kick too early. Try to level out the bike first. Kick, swing with those arms and try to stay nearer the bars. But seeing as i can't land them i'm pretty sure it should still help slightly.Good luck. Mark W
Keep your arms down and straight underneath you, so you keep yourself over the bike (Which it sounds like you're not doing, hence it getting away from you). Then, just keep your back foot high so it clears the top-tube+seat on the way back round. Then practise like a mo'f**ker!
poopipe
The easiest method for whips is to raise your seat, tip your bars forward a bit and say "i don't do whips, they're for fashion fags" whenever someone brings them up. It works out great - you look cool and you don't have to learn the whips. The same technique can be applied to turndowns but you have to be able to back that up with either tyre slides or decent tabletops

Mark W
Seat height's not super important. I know people who do 'em slammed and people who do them with the seat super high, I wouldn't radically alter your setup just to get them. Having said that, I found raising my seat about half an inch made quite a big difference for me, so yeah, I guess you could try raising your seat a touch if it's slammed, but it's not crucial. Practise is super important, just keep chipping away at it. It's like learning manuals - just a case of going out and doing them all the time

Just go out and do it, it's not like you're trying to send yourself doing a triple whip flip over a 25ft double, it's just rolling along on your front wheel. I stepped over the bars, oh noes! *25-28lbs is probably a realistic sort of weight without getting loads of titanium bits, drilling slots in everything and losing your teeth because you bought race bars. *personally? erm. all the ones I know that don't specifically require a ramp*yay (unless you live at the top of a really big hill)Or have no bike control on a BMX as a result of having not ridden one before. If you're riding park, and you're new to BMX, keep it on just for a bit at least so you can get the feel of things and not be a danger to everyone else around you for a bit... Also, halfpipes can be a bit frightening without brakes until you're comfortable hurling yourself out of the top at full tilt.

Gusset complete wheels are alright, they start at about £40 with a sealed hub. I've had a bit of trouble with the bearings shifting in the hub on my Huka complete after about 5-6 months but the whole wheel was only £50 and it's had the utter shit beaten out of it in that time . Tony Harrison
chad degroot says learn them by starting with your foot on a kerb and the backwheel in the air. When I first tried them I actually had to take my front brake cable off (yes, I'm sad and run two brakes...) because I kept instinctively using the brake to help get the back up (trials style). Of course, this is wrong - the move should be executed brakeless. I remember watching Degroot doing them on a video though where he started with his 'back foot' on the rear peg (he had 4 though) and used that, rather than the pedal, to kick the back up. Bit easier to try maybe if you've got 4 pegs. Edited April 3, 2007 by snappel
Ali C
kinda bmx related....How powerful are U brakes? more or less than vees? (on a grind with decent pads). Would an avid lever with the speed dial have the correct amount of cable pull? Can U brakes fit 2.5" tyres? and if I were to move the mounts out to fit a 47mm rim, would the upper arms foul each other when pulled?I would like a U brake on the trials bike you see, theres no noodle or bent cable around the back for dirt and grit to get in. I am thinking its VERY unlikley a u brake will fit, but hey, you never know!
boon racoon
I'm buying a WTP Phoenix pro in a couple of weeks.Got a Shadow seat to put on it. And probably some pink V8s Gonna run it with no pegs and the back brake on for the start, just to get the hang of things like.I will then be able to partake in this thread

A!!
The tf bmx crew is now growing haha, good stuff We need a Tf bmx ride sometime as well, that would be awesome. And on the question front: has anyone got any tips of hopping into nose manuals, because i really can't do them. I'm fine when i lift the front on the object, then flick the backwheel up, then nose manual along it and hop off, but when i try to b-hop into them the i can't get the back to stay up. As for the nose manuals i have my wrists wrapped down slightly then bring the front up only 1" above the object then hop the back wheel up. Make sure the front wheel stays low as possible so you sketch out. That works for me. I'm slowly getting there but can't keep it. I found a way to bring the back end up as well when it drops but it's not like a normal manual.
Mark W
Yeah, rolling your wrists forwards a touch to flick into it and then keeping your bodyweight over the front (moving your whole body, not just pushing your arms or whatever) seems to work.Turns out I might be getting the Holdfast now, anyone want a super cheap Parkinson or Sinister frame, with BB?
