Mark W
Odyssey > KHE cassette, any day. No joke.Dan - if Cyclesport or Customriders (can't remember who...) still have them, get a Demolition Bullimia on Demolition Zero rim. They're too good - I've had mine for well over a year now and it's still true. I've snapped a couple of spokes from grinding, and a few more are going from age (on the non-drive side), but other than that it's been 17months of pure spinning joy. The bearings are still good, and the axle's still straight. Plus they're smoked chrome
Barbra
you mean the KHE > Sun wheel?Or did you mean build one up myself with them parts?s

eskimo
You can't go wrong with a Odyssey cassette. Most people swear by them. Personally i think the spring and pawl design is a little cheap but it works out well and due to the fact you can get spare parts for all of it at a cheap price. But to be fair i haven't heard of any problems with them. They don't slip either. My Profile has slipped more than my Odyssey but that's due to the fact it's on my mod. Some places do free postage and free spokes + free build if you buy the hub and rim from them. Alans however will charge for everything but you will get a good build. If you buy 48h though a average build won't matter in with most riders. So for a cheap reliable build go with a Odyssey on say a Sun Black Box, City Light or Supra G. And some Prolite spokes.Heres also a few i found. LINKAGE1LINKAGE2I strongly suggest one of these 2. The Odyssey one would be my choice. I forgot to mention i don't have all the money for the wheel yet. May even be a fair few weeks Normally i wouldn't recomend such a shop but for the price they are worth snapping up. The mix cassette is normall a 100. And the Odyssey works out about 20 quid cheaper give or take 5/10.But don't worry too much theres always sales on here and there. Barbra
i know i'm giving you guys a harsh time with all these questions, so i'm sorry lol.I'm now looking at wheels that come in pairs instead of single wheels.LINKAGE! They seem to have the best deals, i really don't want to spend more than £180 on a pair. BUT if its very much worth it then i will do
Mark W
The Proper Magnalite wheels are a bit of a steal at that price...
Barbra
The Proper Magnalite wheels are a bit of a steal at that price...sounds good, Also i'd like a gearing that i can get a fair amount of speed with, but not so hard so that when i try to start pedaling im forcing all my weight onto the drive side pedal. Any reccomendations on the gear ratio guys?
Mark W
Sounds like you basically need the regular BMX ratio, really. e.g. 44:16, 39:14, 36:13, 33:12, 30:11, 28:10, 25:9, 22:8. They all do the same job

Mark W
Yeah, 30:11 or 28:10 are pretty much spot on. Nice and compact, without gang-raping your chain
Dan Clark
Anyone recommend some decent lightweight pegs that won't fold in half in 3 months like my Hoffman ones?
Barbra
http://www.alansbmx.com/product_info.php?c...roducts_id=1315I quite like the look of these, not too dear either

Barbra
Ok good news for all, this should be my last question (until something goes tits up once its all built up).Could somebody please recomend me some cranks, they must fit a mid BB?Looking to spend around £90 But as usual if the cranks are worth the extra money, i'm willing to pay.Cheers in advance.
Mark W
All cranks will fit a mid BB Stuff like WTP Royals, Fly cranks and Primo Hollowbites are pretty snazzy, just go with what you can afford.
Mark W
Broomer - if you're going 28t, there's a guy around here who's got a sprocket he's selling for £13, including P&P. Black, Superstar Pimp sprocket. They're strong as hell, they're really thick (So much so they have to recess the sprocket bolt bit to get a bolt to fit through it), yet are really light. Well worth a look in They look like this to give you an idea. If you're interested, let me know and I'll pass on his details to you. The pic's of a silver one, so just imagine it's black? Barbra
link. So how come it give me options of what types of BB to pick? Surely if i don't pick the right one (which is mid) then the axel that comes with the cranks (the one that goes through the BB (i hope i have this right)) just won't fit properly, and nothing will work. poopipe
i've got one of them in 30t - its 8mm thick. Seems to be lasting ok too.pegs.shadow pegs are nice and solid and grind well on concrete and lumpy bricks. I've got the heavy ones (250g each or thereabouts) and they're lasting really well, they do lighter ones which are probably plenty solid enough - only about 11quid a pair.Barber.. the BB choice on that page is so you can choose the correct BB shell size for the selected cranks - the shop will know which one to give you for the cranks you choose (in this case a 22mm spindle mid BB) Edited February 26, 2007 by poopipe
eskimo
Wheels:Proper is 36h should work for you or you have got the option of either on both wheels. But if you are going to snap spokes in either number then i wouldn't suggest buying such a cassette. However they are light and a good choice of colours.Prolite Pro Wheels. A little different with City light rims. The rims are super nice in black and have a wicked sidewall coating which should last even with a brake. Prolite are the same level and design and pretty much exactly the same as Proper but a little different so you aren't buying the same products as everyone else. Light set as well.Odyssey wheel set tends to be alot more realiable. With stronger axles as well. Cheap replacment of all parts easily available. Everyone who used to run Odyssey wheels stuff has now moved on so they still won't be repetitive.Gsport wheel set, heavy duty last forever without tuning one spoke if built right. Heavy but guaranteed to last you. Perhaps available with the Mk2 homers?Cranks:WTP royals, light and strong. Good standard price. TI axle available seperatly.Profile are the same as royals with lifetime gurantee. Available in race for super light.Primo 'Bites are lighter slightly only available with 22mm axle? Steel insert is touch and go but these cranks save anckles.Other similar cranks are around but they are the cheapest and most efficient ones.Odyssey flex alot, the 2 piece cranks have been know to snap but are LIGHT. Many other companies about. I ride KHE hiddenburg's.Pegs:Macneil pegs are fast and last also lighter than most pegs. Hoffman pegs are super light at 75grams per peg but light ramp use only.T1 and Fly are ramp use but can handle some light street without to much fast wear.Jpegs and Animal available in light versions made of 4140 which look nice and a harder compound i've found?Kink pegs have a full lifetime gurantee against anything also available in light version which aren't guranteed.I use Animal lights and Macneil pegs. Mark W
Just order the cranks with a Mid BB. The spindle doesn't change, it's just the size of the bearings, or whether they come with cups or not. That's all you need to do...I'd add that I'd have more faith in the Royals lasting longer than Profiles - Profiles are notorious for developing "Profile Wobble", whereas Royals seem to be a bit stronger. I'd also say the Primo cranks are worse for your lower legs - I didn't hit my ankles once on my WTP cranks, but I actually have a constant cut/callous on my right calf from being stabbed by the end of my Primo cranks. That's the number one reason I'm thinking of switching to Royals, just to get rid of that f**king harsh end!New build pics up in the BMX pics thread... poopipe
I've not been hitting my ankles on the powerbites since I got my slim jims. I dunno if it's the lower profile, whether they sit further out from the crank arm or what but it's completely stopped happening. I too was thinking royals but only cos I was getting bored of silver cranks and hadn't spent any money for a couple of weeks.given up on it now cos I've painted my wheels white just like OBM - I'll do my cranks as well I think
