Currently running the hope pro 2 since building a bike again

great hub but I’ve immediately noticed the lack of enragements

spoke to a few people that are saying the pro4 rip out ratchet rings and pro 5 skip alot

i9 are meant to be decent in all aspects but now brilliant

BUT they have just brought out a hydra 2

anyone used it? Has 3 teeth per pawl which is effectively tripling the grab when it engages

its designed for emtb so will be to take high torque

been out the scene for along time so seeing peoples opinions and if I’ve missed any other reliable options?

Most reliable hub I've had since getting back into street trials just over a couple of years ago is the TMS hub.

I've had a Pro5 and can concur it likes to skip but is the most free spinning.

I'm running an I9 just now, it skips now and then but overall very good and the amount of engagement points is awesome.

But saying that, I will be putting my I9 up for sale next week and going back to my TMS hub. Mainly to free up a bit of cash for my upcoming house extension.

For outright strength I think I’d go pro4. Hydras are very good, but the Freehub body is aluminium. The harder you can kick, the more the pawls dig into it and oversize the pawl seats / sockets.

I've really started to get frustrated with my Hydra. Skips almost as often as those crappy 135 freewheels. Doesn't look very good to me from longevity point of view, considering the hub isn't even 1 year old.
Seems like there's not much reliable options on the market right now, for regular axle width.. If you value engagement points.

Not as many engagement points but the Chris King SS hubs I have run have all been great. They are pricey but mine have been really reliable. I'm old now so just have it for kicking about with the kids in the garden but back in the day they were great. Had a Pro 2 as well and that was good, never skipped. It was the updated hub shell model though with the strengthened ring.

Yeah those are the legends of trials hub but after having like million engagement points on a Hydra, hard to go back to something like that. Even if the Hydra skips, it's so minor it's not going to throw your balance off like those with less engagement.

Have you tried installing two pairs of springs behind each pawl? Ever since I did that, skipping has been relatively minimal. It is obnoxiously loud now though. And those pawl pockets are getting pretty stretched out.

I've emailed KOM several times and they currently don't have a 135 single speed version. The smallest they have is a 142 single speed hub.

Industry nine says that their new Hydra 2 will be available in single speed version 'by the end of April'. Hopefully that's true.

I'd love to try a KOM, but it'll probably be another I9 for me.

No I don't think I'd ever want to mess up with double springs again. Did that to my freewheels already and it pretty much improved nothing, but just as you said made it loud and also very draggy.
One of the things I love about Hydra is the minimal rolling resistance.
