Julius Czar
I’ve got a pair of Hope gunsmoke floating rotors on my mountain bike, and they seem to be past it in terms of performance. I bought them secondhand and they looked fairly worn, I was a bit worried that they may be contaminated but I’ve persevered with them as the gunsmoke parts are hard to come by. I’ve serviced the brakes and put new pads in but nothing has changed, the brakes are as good as non existent. Is there anything I can do to bring these rotors back to life? I’ll change them over if I have to but I’d like to keep the gunsmoke parts on if possible.
Ali C
Have you tried a blowtorch? a quick blast to burn off any contaminants should help. You’re not wanting to get it red hot or anything, I like to look closely and watch for an evaporating effect, it happens pretty quickly and you can just follow it around the rotor, you don’t need to take it off the bike or anything. I don’t think you neeed to do both sides but I often give the other side a lighter blast trying my best to avoid the spokes. Hope that helps! I can’t say I have, not sure why I didn’t think of that, I’ve seen your video about it too 🤦♂️ I’ll give it a go, thanks!
