javimic
Hello again everyone! This is to see if the chain stretch gauge is a good point to replace our chain speaking of snapings (not drivetrain wear). In my case, the chain in the pic is only 5 months old but the tool says it's time to change it. 😅 Thanks in advance guys Javi
La Bourde
I think most chains do not snap because of fatigue, but because of the wear of the axle and from side plates. The "stretch" of the chain is related to the wear of those too. So I'll say probably yes, but I have no experimental data, it is more a guess than something else. Another root cause for snapping is a hit on the chain itself. I used to ride without bash and my chain broke regularly. Measuring the stretch won't help in this case. javimic
OK! I have a new chain in stock… These days I will change it. Thanks La Bourde!
Swoofty
If you ride often, you should get in the habit of regularly replacing your chain. I replace mine every 3 months. Some people replace monthly. On a trials bike, if you can measure chain stretch, you should replace your chain or accept the consequences. It's nice to ride it now as I'm not only using the new chain but also the Pro 5 Hub. Thanks for your advice, Peter. Â
