Tom Brown
Hi, I'm new here. I've been using chain lubricant, and it's a headache trying to get the mud out of the chain since it binds to the lube. Do any of you recommend using WD40 on the chain while testing it out? What do you think, will using the WD40 protect it sufficiently, or would I be better off using something else? Thanks
monkeyseemonkeydo
WD40 isn't really a lubricant. I never lubed my chain on the trials bike but use a normal 'wet' lube on my mountainbikes. I know what you mean about it attracting dirt and gunking up but it's kind of a necessary evil. AdamR28
The Smoove stuff Tarty sell is brilliant. Goes on wet, dries to a wax, lasts ages.

Thanks Tom are you potentially referring to the chain on a moto trial?

Thanks for your suggestions. The following article also said it is a cleaning agent.
Mark W
It is, but it won't do much for the "protecting" element you mentioned in your first post.
Sam Song
In my 10 years of trials riding, I never used anything on the chain of a trials bike. If you normally just ride on paved concrete the exposure to dirt and grime is minimal. And you should be replacing your chain every 6 months or so anyways so lubing is not an issue.
