MaderaMark
when i got my new pro4 hubs, i immediately added springs just to make sure each pawl seats on every teeth....
javimic
Now that I have time since I broke the rear axle again (Fourplay 2020), a recurring issue of that edition of the model (if you are interested see my previous post). Later I will update my experience with the new Hope Pro4 ss/t that I received under warranty. Changes I noticed in the article and what I did when it skipped a few times during the first few rides. javimic
Here is my update. I received my new Hope Pro 4 SS/T under warranty after the house analyzed my old hub. It was the original hub for my 2020 Inspired Fourplay Team. I rode that hub for a year every day, nothing big and almost always in my backyard (lawn/pallets). On March 23 I built a new set of wheels. During the first rides, the new hub fails again with up to 3 skips (each/ride). I remember feeling bad... I checked the hub and saw that it had too much blue grease on the pawl pivots and the springs seemed to be malfunctioning. I cleaned up the excess with WD-40 then put a little oil on it, rebuilt the hub and voila. Like you were bedding in a freewheel, but I did it and solved the problem. As a general maintenance I also have to say that it is recommended to change springs and pawls once a year. I finally noticed that the pawls have an update as you can see in the photos. A small fin to facilitate the work of springs (Personal opinion). I think the Hope Pro4 is a good value for money option as the warranty completes the product. There is a Spank hub that I want to try.. I keep an eye on a Yohan Triboulat project...
Chakers1998
I noticed the new pawls on my hub when I got it back last week after stripping the ratchet ring threads. My hub skipped a few times on rides as well, so I completely degreased the freewheel and ratchet and only put some chain lube on the moving parts in the freewheel. Running the ratchet almost completely dry with double springs and it seems to be fine now.

Mark W
The "new" pawls are essentially what the "old" pawls were - this is a Pro 2 pawl: I was under the impression the original Pro 4 pawls were a slightly narrower version of them. I haven't seen that kind of rounded one from that hub further up the thread before! It's weird they'd make that switch to that design, but at least they appear to have gone back to the original Pro 2/4 pawl design now. In the same shipment from Tartybikes I received under warranty the brand new pro 4 SS/t with the similar "pro 2 pawls" and a pawl/spring service kit that I had ordered for the next maintenance, and the pawls from the kit are the plain finless model and the packaging says Pro 4, 2 Evo and 2. What a salad! Now is Hope walking back the way? It seems that in this universe it is not convenient to suppose...

MaderaMark
Oh, finally I found this thread.... I posted related topic about hope Pro4 stripped thread.... And was about to hope for warranty but it feels like nothing is going to happen since I am mega miles away from UK and the Chinese Shop is midway for the process..... MaderaMark
possible stupidity works for my stripped hope pro4 hub. I saw this on youtube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=OerTB0iEvsE Drill four holes over the ratchet and weld with stainless rod. Cool down and fill with epoxy..... Just the last option i can think off... Will it kill me? Edited December 8, 2023 by MaderaMark
AdamR28
Interesting... I can't see it working for high loads. A properly penetrated weld will nelt right through the ratchet, leaving the teeth in a mess. So you'd need to have the beat turned right down, and the weld won't attach to the ratchet very well. I would at least wait until you hear back about warranty

Seller say's no reply from Hope, Hope say's it is after-sales department to handle. Days counting and my patience also melting. Not even sure what will happen next. Few days more, and I will lost hope from Hope. Will try SS hubs from Taiwan or China with promising specs but easier budget.

MaderaMark
will sending my hub to machine shop, refill and re-thread would work or not worth at all?

Fairly certain this wouldn't work. How would the stripped material be replaced? I think you need to wait for Hope to actually see the hub and assess it, or for the shop you bought it from to resolve the warranty issue; it's only been a week or two? MaderaMark
I guess being in Asia area warranty issues will be like a smoke. I was tracking the shop and all they can say is hanging... Or maybe one end is just bluffing... not sure, not happy, really disappointed. xiaopowr 2023-12-09 18:48:49 They are on vacation and haven't replied to me. xiaopowr 2023-12-12 13:28:
monkeyseemonkeydo
Chances are the retailer would have to send things back to Hope UK anyway so I'd get back to Hope and tell them the situation and just ask for an address to send the hub to. I take it you can provide them wiht a proof of purchase etc.?
Luke Rainbird
For whatever reason I've only ever gone direct to Hope with issues I've had (they've been few and far between!) and they've always been great, even when something has been my own doing rather than manufacturing issues. Be decent with Hope and they'll look after you - doesn't sound like your retailer is.
MaderaMark
I have posted on another thread until I found this. The only thing I got from the shop was transaction copy. Days counting and upto now, I got the same answer from the Shop. Either they care for it or not, not sure and I really feel I lost my money on this situation. craigjames
As has been said, if the shop you bought it from aren't helping then get into contact with Hope. Send them all the paperwork you have, emails from the shop, photos and video of the issue, and they will most likely request you send the hub back to them direct. Patience is key.
