matt slegg
Just came across this article. Anyone know what frame it is or who it's by? It's bloody lovely. https://dirtmountainbike.com/longform/pro-bike-chris-akrigg-mongoose-trials-bike
isitafox
Yeah it's a Mongoose, one off I'm afraid just for Mr Akrigg and based on proper oldskool geo so BB drop and the like.
matt slegg
Thanks. I wondered if it might be a Leeson.
Ross McArthur
Its not made by Mongoose but they probably paid for it. I'm racking my head trying to think of the frame builder.... It'll come to me. Anyway, he soon painted it blue then it was knicked out his van...Annoying. Edit; if you see any close ups of the finish of the raw frame you'll notice flicks of gold paint round the welds. Almost looks like rust - but cooler. Mark W
Not with those dropouts... I seem to remember it was related to Charge bikes in a way. Charge were under the same umbrella as Chris' other sponsors and do steel frames, so it would have been fairly straight-forward for them to have had something made. matt slegg
Id love to know the geo?
Luke Rainbird
He mentions it's "pretty much an identical copy" to the one he rode off a cliff - I have a vague recollection of that being an old Megamo and while I could well be wrong, you can check easily enough I'm sure and that'll give you the geo. isitafox
He did talk about it in a video saying it was old trials geometry as that's what he grew up on and people would probably find it horrible to ride. Will try to find the clip....
bikeperson45
This green and orange one was an old Megamo according to Mr Ali C in 2010, looks like the same geometry.

isitafox
Can't find what I'm after but this gives a bit of info about his setup at the time https://dirtmountainbike.com/longform/pro-bike-chris-akrigg-mongoose-trials-bike
John Shrewsbury
The green frame is an old Megamo frame. I believe chris got a few off Ben Savage’s father some years ago. The Raw one with Mongoose stickers was made by an American bmx company called Standard Byke co.

matt slegg
Thank you everyone, really interesting, Wonder what happened to the bike that was stolen? I really love those old Megamo bikes. They look so simple.
La Bourde
I love the look of them too. Always wanted to buy a cheap one and to ride it brakeless (but I am too bad, so it doesn't make sense) Ever saw the vienna's finest? http://www.viennasfinest.bike/rahmen/#26zoll Looks pretty simple too. There are a few megamo’s bobbling about, you can pretty much upgrade the bikes with decent spec to make it feel quite nice. I still got an old one which has cracked about 5 times in different areas and one brand new (see pic) frame with 150mm axle clearance on the rear. They used to have really wide shimano freewheel/fixed hubs on the rear.
isitafox
Perfect for running a boost rear hub on then!
La Bourde
A boost hub with 9mm axle? I think it will be difficult to find a good one.

uk24
It was built by standard byke co. Known for their bmx frames, Chris is pals with the mongoose bmx team manager and got them to build it for him. Though geometry wasn’t correct went on one trip on it before binning off. That's interesting to hear. What's your source? I did have my suspicions on whether the bike was actually stolen or not, or whether he just didn't like it and decided to bin it haha... That one trip was to somewhere rocky with Edd on his raw Arcade? Buthiers? Anyone got the video?
