Seat clamp help

Hi all,

I have been riding MTB for many years now, and have always fancied a play with a bit of trials. I picked up a project bike which is coming together, however I am stuck on the seat clamp set up. I think the frame is a da bomb school... Pic added to show what I mean, I have nothing at all fitted so need a seat post and whatever it is inside that clamps it... If it's too much of a faff I just won't run anything at all... Lightweight and all that!?

Any advice appreciated!

Cheers in advanced folks

Ah cool, where abouts is that? Inward thinking down by the end of that millennium walk way thing in new mills might have a few good steps and ledges to try hopping up and stuff?

Yeah that's the place! Few bits and pieces to play about on.

Since this is meant to be a trials-like bike, you can stack up 3 or 4 washers on either side of the seatpost (inside the integrated seatpost clamp tunnel) with an appropriate bolt through the washers and tighten the whole works with a nut on the other side. It'll be enough for trials, but it wouldn't hold landing on the seat after a fair jump. A slightly more elegant setup would be to find some plastic rod the same diameter as the integrated seatpost clamp hole and make your own split pinch bolt setup. Good luck!

Sounds good, will head there when I get the bike sorted (I think we are allowed now!?)

Cheers swoofty, I was thinking of something very similar. Get a hole saw the same dia as the integrated seat clamp and notch the seat post, then stick a bar in with some penny washers or something to lock it in place... Maybe if I feel I need a seat..

I had the same issue on a 'Made in China' frame I've recently found and restored. Initially tried to source Monty integrated seat bolt clamp ... no longer produced, out of stock. Solution: the Mini Velo seat with a quill seat post Tartybikes has on sale.

Info on the bike: RunWin Trials (2005)

Geometry:

Wheelbase: 1045mm; Chainstay: 384mm; Headtube angle: 71 degrees; BB height +20mm; Fork: 410mm;
Stock Handlebar width (Flat bar profile): 28 inches; Stem: 80mm, 40degree rise; Cranks: 175mm (22T)
Top tube: 559; Head tube length: 110mm; Seat tube length: 8 inches

Replaced the V-brakes to Maguras, changed: bar/stem, BB,  tires, convert the front V-brake to Shimano/SRAM Centreline disc brakes, Shimano rear derailleur w/ 7-speed freewheel (pending single cog conversion with tensioner), paint KTM Orange (RAL-2009)

Wow! A mini quill seat. Now that's a find! Kinda negates any weight savings though...

You can always remove the glued in plastic Mini Velo seat and use it like a Jitsie Varial seat plug :jitsie-varial-silicon-seat-plug.jpg

or just go classic Monty classic sticker if weight is an issue:

@Swoofty - Thanks for posting your Czar 26" YouTube vid - helped a lot in helping me decide how to 'upgrade' this random frame - also thanks to @Ali C for ideas from the Hex build.
