Rusevelt
Why the f**k would you leave that much equipment in a van overnight? http://amp.timeinc.net/cyclingweekly/news/latest-news/cycling-weekly-suffers-theft-up-to-150000-of-bikes-and-equipment-stolen-360548?source=dam
bikeperson45
I'd rob more vans if I knew they had that much in there
Ross McArthur
Looks like they had been travelling and stopped over at a hotel. Not like they're going to bring 20 bikes into their room are they? In saying that, 20 bikes in that van? I find that hard to believe. JD™
Two vans, and when it’s £150k worth of kit you get a hotel with a secure lockup, or you get an extra room for the bikes. That’s without adding in the fact it’s someone else’s kit. Unacceptable.
Ross McArthur
3 vans actually and 27 bikes. My bad. "One of the vans had its door bent open, and the other two had their locks damaged"
MadManMike
Insurance job? To unload three vans in a hotel car park without being noticed is unlikely. Also, they have had to have three vans or one bigger van to load in to... Not quite a spur of the moment break in is it? Either inside job or someone knew they were there imo.
Ross McArthur
Unfortunately these things happen all the time. A friend had his bikes knicked out of his garage (attached to the house) while he was sat at dinner! Stand in a hotel car park at 2-3-4am and I bet you wont see another soul for hours. Easy done. One caravan is all they'd need.
Al_Fel
I'm almost certain I saw a similar story about this same van but with charity bikes in it that got stolen. I'm very sceptical of the story though. It just doesn't make sense.
Rusevelt
Especially when they published a small article about bike theft a few months back https://www.google.co.uk/amp/amp.timeinc.net/cyclingweekly/news/latest-news/bike-thief-reveals-tricks-trade-stunningly-candid-interview-225130%3fsource=dam
Rusevelt
Marin also lost a van load of bikes http://www.cyclingweekly.com/news/latest-news/marin-suffers-30000-bike-theft-van-rotherham-362111
MadManMike
*Parks branded van full of bikes in Rotherham and wonders why it gets emptied* If you're carrying £30k worth of stuff, maybe not a good idea to have a shopping list plastered on the side of the van. Hope they find them, but most likely stripped by now
Rusevelt
Your hunch about an insurance job has gotta be the same thing here. Whilst on the subject of bike theft, did you read about ChainReactionCycles http://www.cyclingweekly.com/news/latest-news/two-brothers-jailed-making-100000-selling-stolen-chain-reaction-cycles-stock-361571 This happened in Netherlands. http://amp.timeinc.net/cyclingweekly/news/latest-news/watch-cctv-footages-show-thieves-make-off-e100000-worth-bianchi-bikes-bike-shop-raid-367158?source=dam Edited January 26, 2018 by Rusevelt
