iron_panda
Hey guys! So my bike has been a bit unloved for a while and thinking of going over it, replacing some parts and giving it a good clean. Never really cleaned any type of bike in the past (never been a massive rider) and this may seem very obvious but I thought I'd ask and make sure anyway. But is it worth de-greasing the chain, cleaning it and then greasing it again? If so, are their any brands that you'd recommend or does any de-greaser and grease do the trick? Sorry for my very newbie question but again, thought I'd ask and make sure Cheers!
Ross McArthur
What sort of bike are we talking here? Motor bike or pedal bike? Push bike chains don't tend to use grease, just a light oil.
iron_panda
Pedal Bike (onza zoot)
Ross McArthur
Then certainly, cleaning your chain would be beneficial. More because it will give you a chance to check for any cracked links etc. If you find you have a problem with your chain, the KMC610 is what most riders use with a single speed set up. As for the rest of the bike, I just use fairy liquid to clean off any dirt and grime. Its as good as any bike cleaning degreaser solution you'll get. Plus you can make a rocket once its done. I give my discs a clean first before using the brush/sponge/cloth on any other part of my bike.
iron_panda
Awesome thanks! So just go over the whole bike (chain included) with water and fairy liquid, once dried put a light oil on the chain?
Ross McArthur
Or you could get caught up in the hype and use these? https://instagram.com/p/BR3SK5kDtNl/ https://instagram.com/p/BRLYm5phcPn/

Although, if you don't have lock on grips, I'd keep the water etc away from your grips if you want to ride straight away.
monkeyseemonkeydo
I think it's asking for trouble telling people to clean their bikes with WD40... Shame on you Kenny
