JamieC
I'm fairly new to trials and bought a bike off an experienced rider, I was using his setup but struggling to pick things up. I've started making changes to stem height, bar rise, bar roll etc but its slow progress as I'm doing it trial and error without knowing how the change will affect the ride before I make the change. He did have a very low bar on which felt like it was putting my weight too far forward, so I replaced that with a trial tech one with a lot of rise, instantly felt better. Ive recently rolled the bar forward quite a lot and my rear wheel hops have come on leaps and bounds. How will these things change the way the bike handles when riding trials/street?Stem length, stem height, stem angle, bar length, bar rise, bar roll (how far forward you roll the bar) Cheers all! LEON
Street stuff wants the bars more upright, mine are angled slightly back so your weight is nice and central on the bike. If they're leant forward then so is your weight, you're pushing your hands away from your feet and bunnyhops and spins will be pretty crappy. Bar width is the least important of all those, stems are generally about 90mm & fairly stem for street. For hoppy trials stuff it's all 120mm+ and bar logos facing the floor. Ross McArthur
Post a picture of your bike and a picture of your bar set up (side on) then we can go from there.
JamieC
From what Leon has said it sounds like everything I've done should make it harder, but so far it's made it easier. I'll post a picture tomorrow, Ross, once I've worked out how haha. I've just fired back a few pints of guiness after a hard fell run, so nothing productive will take place tonight
LEON
Really depends on the rider, bike, what you're aiming for. Upside down bars truly work well for a few riders, most people do it to be like those few, while actually being hindered by it.
JamieC
Upside down bars? That can't be nice to ride. This is my bike, looking at it now that front end looks sky high.
Ross McArthur
Whaaaa! That's my mates old Marino! Amazing. That bike rides awesome btw. I designed it Looks like the forks are bent now haha One thing to note though (something which had nothing to do with me) is that the brake mount is welded on the wrong way round. The top/high part should be at the bottom. It was a frame builder called JAF who done it. Refunded my mate but never sorted it.
JamieC
Ha, that's amazing. Who was your mate? You might be seeing it again soon, I'm moving to Glasgow next week. Oh okay, I thought they were supposed to be like that haha. Riiiight, I'd always wondered why I have to run the adapter a size up from the disc. It doesn't cause any problems though, just means I won't be able to run a 203mm disc with a standard adapter. Do you know how old it is? What's the spec like now compared to when your mate had it?
