jnthebiker
I've got a really strange issue... I haven't ridden a lot lately but this has happened every time I get on the bike, so at least once or twice a week for the last month. This usually happens once when I first get on the bike, and then often throughout my ride. When I put my right foot on the pedal the first time and then pretty much any time I land a decent size gap, my right ankle totally folds, with my foot going inward. I have no other ankle pain, but this literally puts me on the ground out of nowhere and hurts like hell. 2 minutes later, I'm totally fine. Anyone ever had this? Should I get checked? Thanks. Paperclip
[Insert your gf randomly puts out joke here] I would go and get this checked out asap as it sounds like it's only a matter of time before you really hurt yourself. I was warned when I tore a ligament in my ankle if I rode to soon this would occur, I was told that ankle instability I think it was called is common with cycling. Basically have you hurt your ankle before (Sprained it or worse) and not rested it fully before carrying on with usual stuff? I think you'd get told to wear a ankle support for rides to keep it from doing this for a few months until it's sorted itself out. I could be way off the mark as I tore my ankle back in 2011 so my memory is a little off.
Greetings
Consider an osteopath. I've been going to one since I started riding frequently and would highly recommend it. I have ankle problems as well, they don't fold but sometimes after a tiny drop even from 2 pallets I get a shooting pain in the ankle (from the front of the joint) which goes away completely after a minute or two. She recommended I buy one of these and practice 20 minutes a day. What you do is balance on one foot while keeping the ankle in line with the knee. During diagnosis, she asked me to do a squat and noticed how my legs don't run paralell when bent, instead they cave in and the knees touch. She thinks I tore a ligament years ago when a BB snapped on a large drop. It didn't get diagnosed at that time and since then I've been having various pains when riding, now they're getting worse possibly due to my age. Just some insight in case you can relate
