Bottleneck
Hi guys, i seem to have a problem with hydraulic disc brakes. All of the ones I've had have started leaking at the master cylinder after only a few months of use! I've had a few Echo tr's, Hope and Hayes, and always ended up with the same problem. I don't suppose it's normal? Any suggestions? I'm feeling sort of hopeless (pun intended)... Thanks!
niconj
Trialzone, Saint, MT6/7 are all very good brakes that don't leak. If for some reason all the brakes mentioned start to leak on your bike, go for an Avid BB7 with Trialtech pads. In my opinion this brake (good cables and SD7 levers) are well up there with the hydraulic counterparts. If it starts leaking as well, you might have some very bad karma. Mikee
Have they been second hand or new brakes? Are you rebleeding them yourself or having them rebled before the leaking occurs?

They started leaking before any rebleeding, and bleeding them again didn't seem to help On December 2, 2016 at 11:39 AM, niconj said: Trialzone, Saint, MT6/7 are all very good brakes that don't leak. I did think about going for cable brakes, these certainly won't leak!
Luke Rainbird
Not being funny, but something's clearly not right if all those brakes are leaking you but with nobody else having the same issue. I assume you've contacted Tarty about any warranty-worthy issues? If it's not down to that, then perhaps it's not the product that's at fault and some other issue needs putting right.
Paperclip
What part of the lever leaked on the Hope? You don't store your bike upside down for a period of time do you?
Bottleneck
Wait... I feel so stupid right now, but I actually meant that the brakes were leaking at the callipers. Got my vocabulary mixed up... Apologies
Luke Rainbird
Where abouts; Where the hose joins the caliper or around the pistons/join if 2-piece?
niconj
Just get BB7s and be happy.
Bottleneck
It leaks around the pistons, so the oil gets onto the pads and the brakes basically stop working (no surprise)
LEON
I've had saints leak from there, you don't lube the pistons or anything do you?
Daviesdt
@Bottleneck callipers leaked all over my pads and rotors from my echo tr's, hadn't seen that much use either when they went, may have been a bunch of faulty seals have been in circulation from the factory, thankfully the guys at tarty bikes helped put things right for me, not had any problems since. Sounds like you are having some bad luck if all your brakes are going. Just get some new seals put on the ones you have now and swap your pads and rotors, not much else you can do cept grin and bear it.....
