Hello I am looking to purchase the inspired skye v3 and was unsure about doing so due to its short wheelbase and short reach. I am 6ft tall size 10 US shoe. if anyone is within my height or has a skye v2 (same reach and wb) please tell me how you feel on it and if its a good idea for me. Thank you .... and btw be legitĀ

I would have thought it would have been suited to someone your height, short wheel base and high front end is what its all about. Theres a guy called chris stern on here, has his own youtube channel called csp productions. Think he has a v2, maybe contact him?

I'd say for sure a skye is too small for you buddy :) I'm 5'8 and I've been riding the V1 skye for almost 2 years now. With each model released they've gotten smaller, and someone who's 6 foot doesn't even suit the V1 Skye in my oppinion, let alone theirs too!!Ā

Ā

Even the newer fourplays are fairly small in my opinion too, been on those and feel like it (Good for me ofcourse!)Ā

Ā

Probably avoid a Skye in your caseĀ buddy, an arcade prehaps? Now that is going to be a MUCH better fit :)

Ive got an element and im a little under 6ft, think the wheel base on an element is about 1040mm and to be honest i was thinking of upgrading for a fourplay as fancied something shorter, i have an idea bunny hops and manuals will be easier to pull, shorter wheelbase will provide a more bmx feel (in my opinion ) for 180's etc so what could be wrong? Plus if it dont suit your style, think a skye will sell easy on second hand ā˜ŗ

The reach has become longer on every version of the Skye they've made.Ā  The current V3 has the longest reach of any they've done.Ā  From memory the V3 is about 10mm longer than the V1.

@Daviesdt - the reach on the latest Fourplay is longer than any of the Elements were, so you're essentially getting the benefits of a short wheelbase (thanks to the super short chainstay length on the new Fourplays compared to the Element), but it'll still be reasonably roomy up front.Ā  A short rear triangle with a reasonable length front triangle is a pretty good way to go for manoeuvrability/agility.Ā  The "problem" is that it skews the wheelbase, and as trials riders still insist on using the wheelbase as the main way of defining how a bike will ride it can sometimes not come across in the same way.Ā  With most street trials bikes, the wheelbase measurement doesn't even really need to be there.Ā  To give you an idea of how weird geometry is, the Arcade WB is about 40-50mm less than your Element, but the frame reach is about 20mm longer...

Would I be right to say that chainstay length and reach are the two main factors people should be looking at with BB height after those to judge how a bike is likely to ride?Ā

Kind of.Ā  I'd say that looking at them in combination is more accurate than using WB as your main reference point.Ā  Luckily most frames tend to have a similar head angle, but it's worth having a look at too.

To use the Skye as an example, I just had a quick check on the backend of our site and the geo for the V1 was 990mm WB, 380mm stays, 73Ā° head angle and 655mm reach.Ā  The V3 is 977mm WB, but the stays are 18mm shorter (so 362mm) and the reach is 5mm longer.Ā  The head angle is also 0.5Ā° steeper, so you're losing WB from the big change at the rear end length, but also from the front wheel effectively being pushed backwards.Ā  That steeper HA, as it's being measured to the centre top of the head tube, also means you'd gain a tiny bit of front end length from your stem/bars now being tipped forward a little bit.Ā  As people are using higher front ends now that effect will also be increased a touch.
