jeff costello
i've had problems with the alignment of my hs33 back brake since yesterday. today i noticed that one plastic backing of my heatsink yellows broke. clean in the middle, into two pieces. i'm going to order alu backings as soon as possible, but this will take at least a week and i want to be able to ride my bike in the meantime. so, i have a pair of old magura pads (black ones, plastic backings as well). should i # try to pry the magura rubbers out (heat up in the oven first?) and put the heatsink rubbers into the magura backings? # just run the magura pads as they are until the new backings arrive? i'm asking you first, because i don't want to ruin the magura pads as well and then be left with no pads at all. can post pics if needed. thanks. ooo
I think they should superglue in fine the backings look identical, the only thing is the black standard magura pads are very soft so heat them up well and don't pull on them very hard or they will tear. jeff costello
yes, they look identical from the outside. but i was kind of afraid that they have a different pattern on the inside. regarding heating: no chance of them melting? a few minutes at 100° / 210F in the oven? or even hotter? robkerly
boiling is a safer way to heat superglue to remove it, without melting the pads. five or ten minutes bubbling and the pads should pull out fairly easily, dont let them boil dry though, unless you want the entire thing to melt
jeff costello
thanks! 5min of boiling did it. only tiny bits of leftovers at the bottom the insides are exactly the same too. i only have shit glue at the moment, so i'm letting them dry under pressure for a few hours.
robkerly
good work. any good superglue should work fine (though sometimes 5 for a quid poundshop superglue works fine) clamp them back in the vice like that when you glue them, and you should be sorted. nice spanner vice extension btw :-D
