niconj
As above... I bought a Der Baron Projekt rode it once and had to get rid of it as it folded horribly. The TryAll Sticky Lite didn't do that and I'm wondering whether the Monty is any good? Don't want to spend the money only to find out that it's the same as the Conti. Herbertlemon102
Vincent hermance was using them at the comps this year. He seemed pretty happy with them. Edited July 17, 2016 by Herbertlemon102
niconj
Doesn't he ride his Hashtagg tires? I think he could ride without a tire and would be better than me. Edited July 17, 2016 by niconj
Mark W
Nah, he's officially signed with Monty to exclusively use Pro Race tyres. I think a couple of other of the UCI guys have too. There's a similar thread on OTN about them. Main positive is super good grip, main negative is a relatively fast wear life compared to other, more heavily treaded tyres (so the same deal as the 19"/20" Pro Race tyres). Seen mixed reports about how 'bouncy' they are.

This will probably be the case with the 26'' versions as well.

I wasn't very nice on them admittedly, loads of gravel and sliding most days, but my tryall lasted 5 months before it reached the same stage- both felt as grippy as eachother. Bottleneck
I haven't yet tried the 26" version, but I ran a pair on my mod (before the frame snapped, whoops). The front one really isn't far from an average condom when it comes to thickness, and it takes close to nothing to get a puncture. Its wear rate was also highly disappointing, especially for the rather steep price. The rear one, though, I was super happy with. 2.6" profile gives a great volume, and together with very good ability to fold it gives you this great bounciness and pop. Grip is superb, even on 40º off-camber. It outlived both the front monty pro race and a front creepy crawler together, so it is totally worth the price. I hope all of this relates to the 26" versions as well, but then again it didn't with try-all tyres. The rear ones are superb on mods but average (imo) on stocks. RossBurnside
Lazenby was running one at Radfest over the weekend - Even after a full days riding I watched him repeatedly smash the absolute sh*t out of them against a concrete slab with edges you'd avoid even on a dh tyre and tube. He dented his rim, caved in the sidewalls in about 3 places, and the tyre held fine - Not even a slow when we woke up the next day. They seemed to grip just as well as the mod tyres too. Mark W
The 26" tyres are way closer to the 19/20" tyres than the Try-All versions were/are

Last one I got was ridden 5 times. The weight penalty is about 300gr. though.
AndyT
I think you need to start eating properly and stop being such a fat ass. Der baron is a lovely tyre

Der baron is a lovely tyre I have around 8% body fat. How do you know what I eat and where my weight comes from? Also, I talk about the Der Baron Projekt, which is a folding tire and not comparable to the normal Baron.
Bottleneck
Don't take it personally, nicoj, the guy was kidding (or trolling).

Damn, after having had a nights sleep I ordered the tire. 300gr. weigh saving on a heavy bike (will run the old Echo SL rims) isn't too bad. niconj
Ok... so first tiny review after having ridden 2 hours with the tire. It is very bouncy, I'd say it's bouncier than my "Der Kaiser" on a single wall rim (running the Monty on a dual wall), which isn't too much of a surprise. It also bottoms out rather quick in comparison to the Conti. I ran 2.2 bars and still hit the rim when doing a gap. This didn't happen with the Conti on 2.0 bars (same gap). With the above mentioned pressure it doesn't fold off camber and the grip is very good too. Not as good as the "Der Kaiser" I think but still good enough. I will have to run in the wet in order to make sure.
Felix_HBtrials
What I think is weird about the Monty is Gilles... He said he was running them for 2016, Monty even took his statement about the tires for promotion, and last comp he won on the Stiky Light, he keeps switching tires. Anyway, it's Gilles, surprised he is still riding a Clean at the moment. Thanks for the review! You are running pretty high pressure! I am 90kg and running 1,5 bar on the Kaiser without issue. niconj
Same weight. Now that I think of it, sometimes I went down to around 1.5 bars on the Der Kaiser without any problems either. Off camber it feels weird though. I don't think the Monty can be ridden with such low pressures (obvious for such a light tire). I will test it today though. The thing about the Monty is that you don't feet the high pressure as much as on other tires. It is very soft. niconj
I have decreased the pressure to 2.0bar and went out riding a couple of times more. It seems to hold up well with this pressure and my weight of 90kgs. Other things: - at 2 bars it bottoms out* at pedal ups when hitting the edge of the wall (didn't happen with the Der Kaiser or TryAll Sticky lite at the same or even lower pressure) - when doing a sidehop it slips down where a Der Kaiser would hold on to the edge with just one side knob - on round rocks it has less grip than the other two tires mentioned - after having ridden 8x2-3hours no wear can be seen (not that this is a lot of riding) - it has more bounce than either of the other tires *Could it be that riding a double wall rim has to do with it?
