Bottleneck
Evening guys, I am looking for a replacement for my old and quite worn Kenda Small Block Eight. It's an Echo Trials 24" bike, and the rim is Echo 2015. I'd much prefer something more durable as this one wears really quick. No price range, as long as it is worth the money Cheers, Ivan
niconj
Maxxis Snyper. Very nice wear rate.
Mikee
I too am on the look out for a new front tyre to replace my small block eight, but 24" tyres are scarce. Has anyone tried the Schwalbe Black Jacks?
SamKidney
Really rate my HolyRoller in fairness. I had only stuck it on the front as it was all I had but Ive been pretty impressed with the level of grip its given. Wear rate is nice and slow and at the right pressure theyre lovely and stable.

Do you think it's worth running a hollyroller on the front of a comp type of bike, not a street one? Isn't it a bit wide and heavy?
Alex Dark
Ive changed from a small block 8 to a Conti Macaskill, Very impressed, well worth the weight.
Mark W
Cap ran a 1.85" Holy Roller briefly (too needledick) and then switched to a 2.4" one and it's been surprisingly good. Not as surprising as just what the rear Conti tyre he's using is sticking to though - angled on rails, way too low on walls, etc., just seems to handle it like a boss. Pleasantly surprised. Not the one for mega wet/muddy natural stuff for obvious reasons but I think for most people they'd be a good option. Decent volume too. He mentioned using one on the front as well and I can see it being decent there too as long as you're happy to take the weight penalty. It seems like they generally outperform most other tyres pretty comfortably.

Ridden Shipley Glen in all weathers with it and I have enough confidence in it to ride most things.

Has anyone tried the Schwalbe Black Jacks? I remember seeing a bike pic thread saying the 24in one was good, so I bought one for the front of the mod in the jan sales for £7.50 sent. Win. When it turned up however it was tiny, stated as 1.95in but that's BS even on a more standardised 25mm rim. On a 39mm section rim it was nearer 1.75in wide and had no volume - looked like something you'd put on a Brompton or similar. If memory serves the 24in is available in a wider size, get that one, cos I've owned 4 schwalbe tyres and just like a lot of tyre peeps they can't measure for toffee. I've found Maxxis to be the only one I can trust in that respect. I run a Schwalbe table top on the front of the fourplay. The wear rate is is a bit less to the time it takes to wear out the 2.4 holy roller on the back, it's a touch smaller width and volume, grip is pretty meh - after it grubs in it won't kill you but it's no contil black chili; but it's 600g with a wire bead (there was a kevlar bead option too last I checked) , getting on for 200g less then a holy roller off the front end really makes a difference to whole bike handling.
