niconj
So I've got a Trialzone IS caliper that with my Trialtech SL forks and hub aligns perfectly without even using the caliper washers (no rubbing and that with a 200mm rotor). I've read a lot about IS brakes being a pain in the ass and that PM calipers perform better. Is that only when the IS doesn't align perfectly or is there really a performance difference other than no rubbing.
Dman
Surely IS is stronger?
niconj
I dunno. Why would it be stronger?
Mark W
If you've got an IS fork/frame and you don't need an adaptor then theoretically it'd be stronger as there's no "weak link" of an adaptor in place. If you've got an IS frame/fork that are faced properly then IS is super good, simply because it can't slip out of place - you just know the amount of spacers you need that's that. It's a lot more faffing around to get a PM caliper set up perfectly on an IS mount. Even if the caliper is a tiny, tiny amount out of line with the rotor then you get a pretty huge change in lever feel and brake performance, and that basically can't happen with a faced IS/IS setup. In terms of actual brake performance there's no difference though.
niconj
Well... I didn't have the fork faced (Trialtech SL) and I'm running a Hope +20 adaptor to run a 200mm rotor. Spacers aren't needed.
