cwtrials
So I know there are some slight differences in the brakes. MT7 has top loading pads, Mt5 doesn't. MT7 is supposed to come with toolless BAT, but they also sell them with BAT's apparently, which is what I got unknowingly. Is there an actual power difference between the two brakes? Or are the piston sizes and lever ratios the same, therefore power = same? If that was true, MT5 is wayyyyy less expensive.
isitafox
Different lever ratio meaning the 7 has more power and the lever is made from different material

Mark W
Isn't it just the bar clamp that's different, in that it's alloy on the MT5 rather than the composite one on the MT7? Not sure how different the power is from 7 to 5, but Ben's MT5s didn't feel underpowered, and that was 'only' with 180mm rotors too. Whether you're using the 5s or 7s, I'd recommend using the MT5 pads as they don't suffer from pad rock whereas it sounds like the 7s do. Greetings
Regarding power, me and my friend have found that Trialtech pads "add" another ~20mm to the disc size. MT5 on TT and 180mm disc performed roughly as it did on OEM pads and a 203. Back on topic, Magura advertise the MT7 as having a different lever ratio. The price for that is a bit cheeky though, some really advanced maths reveals that the value of that amazing lever is almost equivalent to an entire MT5 brake + MT5 lever. cwtrials
Hmm. I'm building up a mod. (shame on me I know). Already got MT7 on the front of my 26, but might go dual mt5's to save some cash. Just grab some TT pads and be happy. If all else fails I can rock the 185mm rotors on the mod. Mark W
Trialtech have sold out of their MT5 pads unfortunately, not ideal timing! Could maybe find some equivalent pads elsewhere, or like you said breeze up to 180s/185s.

Mark W
No, just that they don't have any more at the moment. Not sure when they'll be getting them back in yet.
