Helmet for my narrow head

Recommended Posts

I have yet to find a comfortable helmet for my head shape. I have quite a big head (24"), but the front to back and side to side dimensions aren't the right ratio for any helmet I have ever tried. They are always tight front and back, with a bit of a gap on the sides. So wearing a helmet for any period of time gets quite uncomfortable. I want to get back into riding trials after a few years of doing bugger all and want to avoid the helmet headache.

I much prefer dirt jump/skate style helmets. Unfortunately all my local bike shops predominantly stock roadie and XC helmets, so I am unable to try out a load of different helmets.

Can anyone relate to my head shape issue and have any helmet recommendations?

I work in my local bike shop, and we have a large selection of uvex helmets. Half mtb, half roadie so may not be what you're after but the size adjustment on most of them extends to the side, controlled by a knob at the back. (Usually me :P) so an adjustment wheel that pulls both sides in which consequently pulls the back in as well. They do have a bigger range online too. How far around the side of the helmet the adjustment extends varies, but it's usually focused a little bit towards the rear, so like you said only thing to do is try a bunch on...

I have the same issue, it's very hard for me to find a helmet that is comfortable without looking like a bit of a bucket on my head, generally the shells are too round.

I have a bell variant that is super comfy, it's not quite as tight on the sides as I'd like but it's better than many.  Pop into halfords to try out one of the cheap bell shell for sizing/fit and then order one of the better more expensive helmets from the internet based retailer of your choice :)
