bikeperson45
Anyone have experience using Dongles? Thinking of moving to a place that doesn't provide wifi and thought about the Dongle option, but realistically are they going to be enough to stream Netflix and what not? isitafox
Yeah 4g ones work great, I use my phone to stream netflix/amazon on my laptop on 3.5g and that's more than fast enough!
craigjames
Talking about a 4G dongle which has a sim card inside? If so it's entirely dependant on network coverage. But 4G and HSDPA+ should be fine for streaming.
bikeperson45
Thanks guys, hadn't seen SIM ones yet... 40 minutes ago, isitafox said: Yeah 4g ones work great, I use my phone to stream netflix/amazon on my laptop on 3.5g and that's more than fast enough! Would you mind saying what kind of deal you're on?
MadManMike
I'm no expert on dongles, but 3 are great for data packages on mobiles, so I'd imagine they do a good deal - have a look on their website, most of their mobile contracts are "all you can eat data", which sounds like what you'd want for streaming films.
JT!
Just out of curiosity how much would it cost, assuming you'd be on an unlimited plan?
MadManMike
Unlimited on my mobile (Unlimited data, unlimited texts, 200 minutes) is £15 sim only. I can't imagine a dongle would be any more expensive, it probably uses the same sim card anyway...
JT!
15 pounds a moth for unlimited data? That's crazy cheap. I wonder if they'll charge you more if you're using it as home internet.
TrialsIsHard
I think many of these 'unlimited' data packages are subject to fair usage. I remember once being told that the service provider knows if you're tethering your phone, so if you had it tethered 24/7 they might ask questions! MadManMike
Mine includes tethering, but yes if you tether 1TB they might get a bit pissy.
