God dammit James. Y U SO BMX'Y? Y U NO A TRIALS DRONE?

Sorry, lifes-a-trial, but its a dated argument. James is an exceptional trials rider if you look up his much older videos, but he has been influenced greatly by other disciplines. I know you have said you love his videos, but the second part of the statement ruins it.

EDIT: haven't watch the video yet as I can't at work.

Trials is defined as riding your bike over obstacles.

James does this with such fluidity and style some people have a problem viewing it as trials... You cannot be fluid on most peoples  hop hop pogo bikes, but let's face it the most interesting part of one of the last World Cup videos (not the championships) was jack carthy manualling off that rock into a manual through the end tape. No one said "hated that bmx shit he pulled" they smiled and were stoked on his skills.

James has proven in the past that he can slay comp trials, do insanely huge gaps/ups... It is beyond understandable that he got burnt out on that scene and riding style and went into bmx for new feelings of joy while riding. I'm so happy he is back to show us how great a meld of comp and bmx is... To me this is pure trials, actually RIDING your bike up and over anything you can- if you have the skills throw them in there.

Many people who say "that's so bmx" are  people who cannot ride this way, only can hop, side hop, gap, up to front... Once they get their bike to a good speed they can only hit the brakes - stop then start hopping.

I RIDE biketrials. Just my old mentality I guess... I remember Lenosky breaking his crank/ rim on a failed massive bunnyhop gap in evolve - that was some "bmx shit" I guess... That's just how it was, you had a stock bike with 5 gears and you rode it- they weren't made to hop.

rant over... Keep on slaying james

I used to hate on street trials. I thought it was bad BMX combined with poor trials. After overdoing the trials training, and playing on the BMX for a few years, I lost that elitist mentality. I don't care how high I can hop anymore. I prefer to find new things to do. The street trials bike is something I never focused on, which has allowed me to do lots of new things. That's all this is. It's me trying to find a new way to have fun.

That said, I may make a comeback to competition trials at some point. I might put brakes on the street trials bike. I might even run a steel frame with a front suspension fork and go full Ryan Leech (if only a frame like that existed, I'd be all over it, hint ;) ). When riding is no longer feeling new, I change it up. Yesterday I learned an oppo 360 1 foot flattie on my bmx. It was great.
