jnthebiker
Hey. I am young and have a limited budget, but have been wanting a small camera like a gopro for filming my riding. Anything better than my phone, which films at 720p*30fps. I can't afford a gopro, but was looking around and found these. Has anyone ever heard of SJcam or tried anything made by them? What do you think? The video comparisons with gopros make these look pretty nice. There's a much cheaper one that only does 1080p*30fps, is the 60fps really worth twice the money? I've been thinking it would be nice for slowmo editing? http://www.sjcam.com/cameras/29-sjcam-sj5000-plus-ambarella-a7ls75-1080p-60fps-wifi-sport-action-camera.html This site has them cheaper than anywhere else. Could it be a ripoff? http://www.gearbest.com/action-cameras/pp_197244.html Here's a link to the 30fps model. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wifi-12MP-HD-1080P-Car-Bike-Helmet-Cam-Sports-DV-Action-Waterproof-Camera-SJ4000-/271759564096?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f4621dd40 What do you all think? Thanks, JN Edited July 6, 2015 by jnthebiker
Luke Rainbird
I've got an SJ4000 and it's every bit as good as my older GoPro HD2 and then some. Given that I only use it for a bit of a laugh and don't want to have to worry about it at all the 5000 wasn't worth the extra price for me personally, but if you reeeeeeeally want the 60fps (and possibly slightly larger rear screen?) then get involved. AdamR28
How's the battery life on it Luke?
Luke Rainbird
No different to my GoPro so far, though I've not used it for anything particularly long yet so couldn't really comment on how long it'll last. If I think of it later I'll see if I can just stick it recording in a corner and check the clip duration for you, then you can work out if it's enough for track/etc use.Batteries/cases are dirt cheap though, so I've picked up a spare battery to keep charged and spare case to cut up for use in the car with a power supply from the 12v feed
AdamR28
Nah that's cool, cheers dude! Sounds promising.
isitafox
Love my SJ4000, like Rainman it's only for cocking about with but it's great. Make sure you get one from an official supplier as there's a lot of fakes that sell for less than half the price of an original which are supposed to be awful. Luke Rainbird
Just to add, my SJ also came with a hefty dose of mounts etc too - far more so than my GoPro (though the latter was the motorsport edition with big suction mount, if that makes much difference). For the money, I'm very impressed.Plus, it's yellow.
jnthebiker
Okay thanks guys! Do you think the 60fps is worth the extra money for slowmo shots(which I don't do too often)? Or should I just get the 4000? And do the sellers I posted for them look legit? Thanks again! Edited July 6, 2015 by jnthebiker
isitafox
I'd just go direct and get it from the official website, or email them asking for the details of an official US stockist
jnthebiker
Okay. I think I'm gonna go with the 4000, what do you think?
Luke Rainbird
More than happy with mine. Unless you reeeeeeeally want 1080p @ 60fps then there's no real need to spend twice as much. You've still got the option of 720p @ 60fps if you want to film anything in slomo but unless you're going to be churning out full HD videos regularly I wouldn't really worry too much about that. jnthebiker
Okay. I read that the 720p60fps is just doubled frames, not sure if that's true. Thanks.
jnthebiker
I just ordered the 5000+. I wasn't planning on it, but after seeing a demo of the 60fps slowmo.......
