ogre
i have quite a lot of pads and rotors that give sub par performance, is there any way of getting them properly clean and decontaminated? i've used disc brake cleaner from a spray can but the brakes still under perform
Dazza1414
Try soaking them in coke over night.

dave33
put the pads in the oven and clean the rotor with meths. you will find that the spray cleaning may contain oil
Laurence--Trials
I'm a bit excessive when it comes to this - but it works. I sand both pads and rotor lightly. Put both in the oven for a SHORT amount of time. Fill a pan with very soapy water and boil both for a little. Empty the water and re boil with clean water. finally give both a good sand. Make sure the caliper is free from oil and dirt before putting disc and pads back. Bed in brale by riding trial, once bedded in cover with water to wash any bedding-in-crap off. Good to go! Aaaand now you may all laugh.

ZArgrave
Gas mark 6 cook till golden brown, for fan assisted ovens compromise
N.Wood
Until they start smoking is probably the answer. The plan is to burn off any oil. I usually use a blow torch or a cut down coke can filled with meths, bang pads in, set alight pick em out again when flame goes out.
cleep2
Spray wd40 or something similar on it, then just light them up Nd let the burn the oil off

monkeyseemonkeydo
Spray wd40 or something similar on it, then just light them up Nd let the burn the oil off I know wd40 doesn't have much lubricating properties but that's still a really bad idea! Brake cleaner, acetone, petrol even sure (though probably not with the fire element) but wd40 I'd say no.
bing
Brake cleaner, fire, dishwasher. Works everytime for me
BJ.
Surely the fire would leave soot on the pads?
N.Wood
Not if you burn something worth burning, i.e petrol or meths.
bing
Surely the fire would leave soot on the pads? I don't bother trying to rescue pads, just bin them and buy some more
