crashbanggg
I'm feeling pretty thick right now, and potentially even thicker once someone points how easy it is to do. I'm trying to take the cranks off my new bike to fit a new chain ring, I've only ever had square taper or ISIS cranks before which is nice and simple with a crank extractor tool. With these I have taken off the allen head and unscrewed a plastic retainer(?) but now I'm stumped. Should they slide off at this point and I just need to man up and hit them harder with a mallet or is there something im missing?
MartMini
Looks like the inside of the cranks are threaded, so i guess you'd need a crank extractor?
AndrewEH1
That is a really odd set-up. Hollowtech II BB but some extra thing between the cup and the crank... What does the drive-side look like?
crashbanggg
The driveside looks fairly 'normal' to me, and the crank extractor I have doesn't fit any of the threads there, thinking perhaps there is a specific tool for it..? crashbanggg
Hmm I appear to have been a bit 'special' when googling earlier, found an instructional now: trip to a bike shop to find the tool tomorrow methinks.
N.Wood
Yeah from internet hearsay those tools are very expensive, although someone has probably made a cheaper one now. Nice cranks though.
crashbanggg
£30 for the tool, the robbing bastards! Thanks, can't say I'd have got any that fancy if I had bought them myself!
MartMini
arn't you only ment to pre-load hollowtech 2 bb's up to like 5ft/lb? surely it wont be on there that tight?
Krisboats
Yup, i push my crank on so it meets the bottom bracket and thats it.
