onzatpro09
Hi guys, I have a pretty major problem... It seems that my Hope bottom bracket and first couple of threads on my Arcade's BB shell have stripped... With the standard 2x2mm spacers on the drive side and 1x2mm spacer on the non-drive side the chainring doesn't clear the stays so I may have made a potentially (probably) horrendous mistake of running all of the spacers on one side... What do I do? Get another BB (or just drive side cup if possible) and try and figure it out/completely wreck the frame threads or buy an ISIS crankset that may not clear the frame either? Or am I stuck having to get the Arcade crankset that will definitely fit? Have people used this or a similar setup before, and if so, how? Where should I go from here? Not to mention that I'm going on a bikey holiday to Devon in a week... Cheers, Joe Edited March 30, 2015 by onzatpro09
monkeyseemonkeydo
I'm running Shimano SLX with the standard bb and had to run the 2 standard spacers plus another I think 0.75mm one and also filed down the chainring bosses slightly to make sure I had enough clearance. You definitely want to maximise the thread contact of the bb.
Mark W
The frame threads should be OK I'd have thought - soft aluminium cup vs. hardened steel frame should mean it's cool. There might be a bit of shit left in the threads if it's skimmed some material off the Hope BB cup, but if you clean that out (and grease the shit out of everything afterwards!) it should be OK hopefully. Like Dave said, for most MTB setups like that you'll need to get all the spacers involved on the drive-side.
dk2
Remove the spacers, and get the cups all the way in. Then add spacers on the axel, like on a bmx crank...works perfect....don't remember the size....good luck
