Drop and Roll tour now on Magura brakes

Recommended Posts

Had a photo posted on FB showing the riders in Magura lab coats working on and shipping out brakes. Guessing they will be on the Magura MT7 series. Any comments or thoughts on the brakes, other than sponsorship why the change.

Unless they switch back to aluminium or plan on improving their carbotecture material then I don't see Magura reclaiming the crown of the trials riders choice of brake.

Apparently they are also helping to develop a new line of trials brakes too.

Don't lie to us! Surely not?

To quote Ali:

I've been running a set of MT7s for a bit now and I'm genuinely impressed. You can feel the pads hit the rotor in a nice positive way, the lever blade is fatter and super comfy and the power is well up there.
I like the carbotechture lever....I don't find it makes the brake spongy but the leverage ratio is fairly high so it's never gonna be as stiff as a Hope E4 or Sram brake, I'd put it in the same stiffness category as a Mono Trials.

maybe, but now it's limited to only what Magura make haha.

For cereal though, pretty excited about finally being able to give input into a brake rather than just relying on brakes made for other disciplines. Not sure on the dislike on Carbotech, I've never had an issue personally but I've not used one of the newer HS33s, hopefully if people have had bad experiences with them they can put them aside and enjoy the disc versions.

the problem with carbotecture is it breaks too quickly! :( even when you dont impact on it or crash, it still goes... i dont pull my levers in hard at all and i managed to snap 2 hs33 levers in 7 months... i mean, c'mon magura sort it out! then again, the brakes are designed with weight in mind and not strength... clearly! so hopefully a trials specific brake (yes i mean disc now) should offer the best performance and be strong, as well as reasonably light too.

saying that, id take a slightly heavier brake if its due to last longer

I think the disc levers a a lot more compact and stout, I don't have any strength worries with mine, don't hate on all carbotechture. Strength and reliability is one of our main goals when we talked about what we want from our brakes.....no idea on a time frame sorry.

The carbotecture bodies are fine for the brakes its just the lever blade they need to sort out due to the blades being aluminum and they've not used the thickest material due to them trying to make the brake as light as possible. They perform great its just the blade is a let down

Sounds like progress. The MT7's and 5 sure look the part caliper wise.

Not from Europe, but often wondered why Brembo is not into the bicycle arena, at least not here in the US. Even the Japanese Nissin is not on bicycles.

Maybe they are just sold under a different name.

What is your opinion of the MT5's Ali (I saw you had some for sale in your topic)? much difference to the MT7?

Downfalls of the MT5??

The MT5 is decent, it's not quite as powerful as an MT7 due to the differences in the lever (they use the same calliper though) but they'd still be my choice over the newer shimanos.

How tight was the bar clamp? You're usually best off running them a touch loose so you can try and avoid that kind of thing happening. With the weird clamping system Magura use for their new levers though I don't really know how easy that'd be to dial in though...

It's a shame Magura haven't jumped on the trials bandwagon long before this.

They've had so many offers to help develop their HS range (for free!) for flippin years.

It looks to me now that trials riders are either going to run a disc brake, or a HS33 copy from brands like Clean, Racingline and Onza.

Your loss Magura, your loss.
