Deng Qiang 1974-2012

I was just checking Echo's website and this is what I saw on the home page. Rest in peace. His work's influence has been only second to Monty's, and in my opinion it's the most innovative of all. He deserves a big place in the trials hall of fame. Good to see they are still in business because I absolutely love their designs, and I wish them every success.

I take it they mean 2015? Or have they only just found him after 3 years?

Maybe not? Weird.

In June 2011 Deng Qiang received the diagnosis of a terminal brain tumor and shortly thereafter lapsed into a semi-conscious state. On February 22nd, 2012 he passed away at the age of 38. Deng Qiang’s unrelenting desire was for ECHO to make the most cost-effective and high-quality trials bikes in the world.

From the day that Deng Qiang received his diagnosis ECHO used all of its resources to search for any possible treatment for his brain tumor. Ultimately, after eight months of treatment Deng Qiang passed away.

In order to avoid hostility from competitors and malicious rumors we did not disclose Deng Qiang’s passing to the public. His passing, much like KOXX’s bankruptcy, was a considerable loss the bicycle trials community at large, his innovation and passion cannot be replaced.

It is my sincere promise to Deng Qiang’s memory and to the bicycle trials community that I will continue his work. ECHO will continue to follow the philosophy: Design, develop, innovate, and manufacture the highest quality and most cost-effective bicycles available. We will continue to strive to be leaders in the trials market and never be followers.

Bicycle trials is my lifelong passion, as well as it was Deng Qiang’s. He was my best friend and partner. We will all miss him and in his memory we will move forward.

I heard about this a little while ago and they chose not to tell the riders straight away perhaps because they had to sort out what happened to the business and so on. It's pretty sad to hear in the face of it even though he was rather mysterious and no one really knew much about him his company has impacted the sport in so many ways! 38! :( R.I.P

I built a good relationship with Deng over the five years I was riding for him.

I had a mixture of bikes in my time riding and none stood upto the abuse anything like ZOO! and ECHO did and ultimately his bikes gave me the confidence to achieve the lines I wanted to ride.

I'm really sad to hear the news.

RIP

Crazy how we're just hearing about this now almost 3 years down the road. Clearly some of the best parts and bikes innovated by this guy and like CLS said allowed people to go big without snapping frames in two.

It is weird that we're only just hearing about it now, but then he's always been a man of mystery - for me at least. The name was always heard, but most of us knew nothing about him.

He's probably contributed the most to the worldwide trials scene, definitely needs recognition for that.

Another person passing too young, rest in peace Deng.
