ChrisBrown81
I grew up in the late 90's when trials was still starting out (we just used to copy to 2 Martins and call it street/urban riding). After finding women and cars I gave up on bikes till about 4 years ago I got another MTB and got back into Dh. Now I want to go back to my roots and give trials a go again...but I don't want to look like a silly old fool on my own... Does anyone over 30 still get out there and ride trials?
Dman
✋I'm 33 and loving it only started 3 years ago. Get a bike and get at it.
AdamR28
Yep - 31 here and no plans to hang up the trials bike any time soon The bikes mostly have no seats nowadays so you look a fool whatever age you are
isitafox
Define getting out there and riding? I try to get out a bit but a wife, 3 kids and a random shift pattern don't help along with there being zilch to ride where I live. Still try and get out to a few comps when I can and the (very) occasional group ride. EDIT: 32 here (just)
monkeyseemonkeydo
32 and 5/6ths and still get out and play on the Arcade when I can. Rode Portland last weekend, Southampton the weekend before and mess around with my 2 year old at the skate park when I can (my 5 month old isn't interested in bikes yet- go figure). Jobs and kids get in the way (as it looks like you're probably aware!) but while I'm still enjoying it I'll keep riding.
manuel
No, but they want to
isitafox
Instead of riding I just keep building bikes and pretending they'll get used...

ChrisBrown81
Right guys last post of today until I have 2 more 'approved' posts. Can anyone tell me the difference in the inspired bikes? Are they all the same frame just higher up the range are better spec'd? Thanks in advance! PMK
I just started at 53, totally crap in the skills department, but learning and having fun. I too went with a street trials Inspired. Used would have been good, but here the difference in cost after shipping and finding a bike was tough. So I bought a new machine. No regrets yet. Now looking at maybe a 26 stock machine since I learned of a local rider similar in age and skills with an Echo. PK
Aldred_85
Kinda like old gits anonymous. "hi, im dave, im 30 and i having a cycling problem" "hi dave". I used to ride trials from 90's to mid 00's. Just started back up in Oct last year. I too felt maybe I was too old, but once you get back on and realise it all comes flooding back and is so much more fun than going to gym. Who cares!

pashleyfaithfull
Started in 1997. 33 years old. 2 kids. Riding a couple of times a week. It'll never go away. Age is merely a number mate. Who cares? In the days before Trials was more well known (Cheers Danny Mac), we used to get wierd looks ALL the time. You could argue we would get a similar amount of looks now if people realised our age and that we're responsible for children also! But in the same respect of how we felt before, who cares. You're never too old to ride, as long as you keep it going. Edited February 18, 2015 by pashleyfaithfull
Stephen Morris
I'm 31 and probably the best rider on this forum, there's no real evidence for it but it is scientific fact. I ride about 11 times a year, typically about once a week between May and September, weather permitting.

lifes-a-trial
Owned a montessa T15 in about 1982/3. One of the first (i think) trials specific bicycles.Packed in riding that and my Torker 280x freestyle bmx when i left school at sixteen because every body said it was kids stuff and gave me s**t.So i got rid but the bug never left me. Then in 2011 i got myself a stock,i was 43. I am now pushing 47 and love it, love it, love it. Just wish i could ride more and get involved with group rides etc etc.
Scott Gibbs
I'm 30 and I've just started building a 24" street bike. If you love it, do it don't worry about age

ChrisBrown81
Wow. I'm so pleased with the response this thread has got. It's great to see so many 30,40 and 50+ still in the game!! Sorry I've taken so long to reply...I can only make 3 posts a day as I'm new to the forum Anyway yesterday I said I was getting a bike ASAP and wanted an inspired street style one. Well after a quick search on ebay/gumtree etc a 2014 Onza Zoot was for sale right on my doorstep. I know people aren't going to like that and it gets mixed reviews but It hasn't a mark on it. Completely standard apart from the brakes had been updated to Discs. Seller wanted £400 I managed to get it for £300. I'm really happy with it for now while I practice more...I am still eventually upgrade to an inspired but as I said, it was on my doorstep, price was good and I really wanted to get out and ride! So I'm from Sheffield originally but now live in Newark on Trent. Looking to ride around Sheff, Notts, Mansfield, Chesterfield...anywhere a bit local really...so if anyone's near bye, give me a shout!
