TF Curborough Day - Final Info

I learnt why hamsters have such short legs!

Yeah you did.

I googled the Cathedral, it was rebuilt loads of times. Started off as a Saxon wooden church in 1085, then was rebuilt by the Normans as a stone Cathedral, then in 1195 they started rebuilding it in a Gothic style, it wasn't completed until the Lady Chapel was completed in the early 1330's.

It's top attraction is the Lichfield Gospels, which are an illuminated 8th century manuscript of Matthew and Mark's Gospels and the early works of Luke.

**It was nice to meet you too, thanks for the lift. :)

I thought it was 16th century, which is incredibly late for the reconstruction of a cathedral. But the stone work just looked to had been redone so I assumed it was damaged during the Civil War.

Yeah, he did. But I didn't help him, because I'm a crap mate.

His car was going really well all day, such a shame about his puncture. I think it made him feel a bit deflated :(

I had a great day taking pics and meeting you guys. I had a quick edit of a few pics earlier and they were coming up a treat :) Might post a few up later if I finish work early enough if not it'll be the weekend.

I'll post them on here for everyone and you are free to do with them as you please. I'll be posting them on fb too if anybody wants tagging in them etc add me on there (Duncan Hague).

Thank you to Adam and Luke for making things happen!

Well that was awesome. Just gotten back and packed everything away.

Shame about the puncture, but fortunately I have a spare tyre so will get the boys to sort that for me.

Can't believe how hard it was to beat my first lap time. Really don't know what was up with that. I think the car would have been quicker with my grey Road wheels with the extra tread and the car not leaning backwards.

Never been though liftoff oversteer in the dry so that was a steep learning curve.

2 engine fault codes from a day of smashing it. Not too bad.

Was really good to see everyone again and get to meet some new people too. Been needing a good day out for a while and this hit the spot.

Thank you Adam for the organisation, tools, timing and tuition.

I've got some photos and will upload tomorrow. Did anyone get any of my car on track? Hopefully with the full red wheel setup.

Cheers Ash

I didn't realise that you were you, and I feel really rude now for not making more of an effort to talk to you...

Don't worry about it man, easily done. How about another TF trackday to make up for it? ;)

Edit: Wheni say I have multiple photos I have a thousand photos to get through, and thats after I deleted a bunch out earlier!

Thanks Adam/ Luke for organising today, it was properly f*******g awesome! Aside from tortured tires, coolant spunking out over the engine bay and a slight mishap with handbrake releasing itself:

It appears to have come away relatively unscathed, success! Looking forward to seeing the pics!

Rear facing seats in the boot for passenger laps!

That would be hilarious, being thrown sideways as if on a pendulum whilst facing backwards.

Things I have learned:

Rainsports don't like dry weather combined with a heavy Volvo

I cannot drive on the track

Having experienced other people's cars, my brakes are even worse than I suspected

Open diffs are poop, but I guess I knew that.

Don't replace the actuator on the turbo days before a track day as it will keep popping off

All in all, my car is rubbish so it's time to start creating something more suitable.

My car could do with some new suspension - which I actually have, I just haven't fitted yet.

I reckon if we went there again I'd be much quicker, I've watched videos and seen where I was going wrong. The turn at the end of the straight was my biggest enemy.

And so the slippery slope begins........ :)

Genuine 'been there, done that' advice: Don't throw money at a generally unsuitable car (insert Jehovah style preaching about wrong wheel drive, haha), track time makes you faster than upgrades (and then the 'driver upgrade' works in any car), reliability and driveability will allow you to learn more than a fast car.
