Culshaw95
Received my Trialtech Sport Lite forks and noticed a weld leading up the fork. I don't know if there's actually any reason for the weld to be there but it seems unnatural and looks as if its a machine fault. Has anyone else got it? I've noticed on the images on Tartys of both the 20" & 26" forks they have it also but then it could just be me being picky Edited February 2, 2015 by Culshaw95
LEON
Definitely weird, definitely not pretty, but if they all have it there's a reason for it, probably disc mount stress related. I can't imagine a mistake that big would get past quality control. Edited February 2, 2015 by LEON
Mark W
...probably disc mount stress related. - Disc Only model: IS disc mount has a unique feature to the Trialtech Sport Lite fork range - an extended weld path that wraps around the fork leg reduces stress build up to help prevent cracking at the end of the disc tab. LEON
If I was the owner, I probably would have read that too.
Culshaw95
Ah that explains it then. I didn't realise it was noted down, just looked abnormal at first but that clears it up and that's one way for me to look like an idiot Edited February 2, 2015 by Culshaw95
Mark W
Wasn't trying to be a dick or anything, that bit from the TartyBikes site just seemed to be the most succinct way of putting it
niconj
Kinda funny as I have the same fork and knew how it looked before I even bought it. With a fork that expensive I think reading the description is kinda mandatory.
Culshaw95
Yeah I originally looked at the details for the 4 Bolt mount as I was thinking of heading that direction but it was a last minute thought of going disc and didn't think to read the description for it. My bad for a bit of a pointless post here but cheers for giving me the answer
wilf
I wondered the same thing on mine but guessed it was related to stress. Either way I would of bought them anyway as they were £60 brand new.
Ross McArthur
Anyone who bought the 4 bolt versions and didn't send them back after the re-call had any problems with them yet? Mine seem to be holding up fine so far. Love the Sport lite forks. Best forks EVA.
isitafox
Are you a f**king idiot Ross?! They'll most definitely snap, trust me, a top rider made sure I knew that but he doesn't come on here anymore for some reason......
AdamR28
Lol. Yeah they will break at some point, any aluminium 4-bolt fork will, but in terms of life : weight ratio the Sport Lites are impressive.
niconj
Lol. Yeah they will break at some point, any aluminium 4-bolt fork will, What about carbon ones like the Try All?
AdamR28
I guess I should have expanded that statement to 'any fork will break at some point'. In general*, the ~550g carbon ones last longer than ~800g alloy ones though, from my experience. *There are so many other factors, this is a general sweeping statement! niconj
*There are so many other factors, this is a general sweeping statement! True that but ceteris paribus carbon ones last longer then.
AdamR28
I had to Google that! But yes, I'd say so.
Ross McArthur
They have lasted longer than any set of Echo forks ive ever had. So f**k it. No one has come out and said where they snap? If anything id like to know that...
Mark W
In that they share the same legs/steerer as the Disc version, I'd assume it's around the 4-bolt mounts. I know that's pretty vague, but if you keep an eye on them as you would (should ) any normal set of alloy 4-bolt forks you should be good.
