PMK
As a beginner at trails, is it worthwhile to install a downtube protector such as the Pro Carbon Racing? This would be on an Inspired Fourplay, not so much street trials ridden, but not competition trials more flowing off road natural stuff and some man made features like ramps, teeters, wire spools etc. PK
thinkdougie
I'd say yes, you tend to bash more when starting out and £15 is a great investment to save your frame
AdamR28
On the Fourplay it will protect from scratches, but you don't need one structurally-speaking, the downtubes are solid.
jnthebiker
Yes, get one. I know someone who works in carbon fabrication professionally and he made me a custom fitted one for my bike, i bash it directly of concrete walls all the time, the protector still doesn't have a scratch after a few months. Myself, I train the guys that accomplish carbon repair work on aircraft, and also fabrication with the material. If I have a tube to mold one I'll make it myself, but sometimes it is just easier and more cost effective to just buy one. Tartybikes show no stock. Any ideas on other companies that stock the small version, better still if it was here in the US. PK
Paperclip
I'd say you was wasting your time in all honesty granted you might save your frame from a few scratches but you might as well just put a sticker type or protection on for what you'd be achieving. would be far more useful on something like a because or onza that use a lot thinner tubing. jnthebiker
Put one on. If I didn't have mine, I would have scratched and dented my frame loads. Not a single scratch or dent on it.
PMK
Seems Tartbikes is the one place that carries them. Out of stock currently so I set it up to notify me when they arrive. Guess I'll decide if I want it or not by then and / or fab my own. Anyone else stock them. PK
