lankyri
Evening all just wondering really as im slowly upgrading my mtb and is it just me or is everything these days 10 speed im currently running triple on the front and 8 on the rear with a std 135mm hub xan I add more gears on the rear or is ten speed for hubs that are 150mm hubs
forteh
Just put a 10 speed cassette, chain, mech and shifter on there and you're good to go - fits standard 135mm hub. Also worth investing in a narrow/wide single ring up front, saves a tonne of weight and makes the drivetrain virtually silent
jeff costello
apart from your shifter (handlebar and mech) it depends on how many gears your hub will take. Edited January 23, 2015 by jeff costello
N.Wood
Yeah I run 1x10 with a 32t narrow wide chainring up front and an 11-34 cassette out back. Ideally you'd get a 11-36 cassette but depends how fit you are / how big your hills are.
forteh
I'm using 1x9 32t up narrow/wide front and 11-34 cassette, plenty low enough gears for any* of the hills up cannock chase *Apart from perhaps the return paths back up to the top of stilecop downhill but who rides up them? CurtisRider
I do all of Cannock with the same set up as Ed, it's bob on I will go to 10 speed once my stuff wears out though, just because i'm cool like that

trialsbikingnunn
I'm running 11-34 with 36t up front, it can be a bit hard on hills but for everything else its pretty good
