jnthebiker
Hey all, I just thought I'd share. I took my stock Echo TR 26" wheel in to have all the spokes replaced, by a professional wheel builder who I am friends with and fully trust. When he put force into the rear cog (mind you, I was watching from 2 feet away and he barely put any force into it, nothing that should have done the following) the rim completely folded and ripped! I bought the bike used, it's a 2011 or 2012 Echo Pure, but everything has been mint and the bike is in great condition. I only weigh 125lbs (57kg) and I don't know why it did this. Sorry about the dark picture. JN
isitafox
Why did you need the spokes replacing? Had the rim had a few grinds??
AdamR28
Looks like the join has just come apart? If so, push it back together, rebuild, ride, simples. You also have no way of telling how that bike was treated in the few years before you bought it... It is a strange failure but it is a 3-4 year old rear trials rim after all! craigjames
Looks like the join has just come apart? Also looks like there is a split in the sidewall a bit further around too. To be honest though, getting 3 years out of a trials rim is pretty good going. Cheap enough to replace with a new Echo TR that you know will last another 3-4 years. AdamR28
Ah, yes, I can see that now, how odd!
jnthebiker
Actually, the joint is the small one, where it split is randomly ripped metal. I was getting the spokes replaced because they were old and kept snapping, it now seems that that was because the rim was flexing or something. And yes, a few(very few I think) grinds. craigjames
Is the split in line with a spoke hole?
niconj
push it back together, rebuild, ride, simples. Just wondering. Wouldn't it come apart when riding. Just putting it back together seems to good to be true.
jnthebiker
Craigjames, no it's not split in line with a spoke hole. And niconj, it didn't break apart at the joint. The joint separated about 5mm, it split on the actual rim. Its definitely beyond hope of repair.
