PMK
Curious if any riders use MX style knee braces when riding? I don't have issues with the knees, but just like wearing them when riding motorcycles it's often just for protection. I have Cell knee braces but was unsre if they would be worth wearing to prevent and injury. I have no plans to be wrapped like the Michelin Man, I expect some stuff to happen. Just not sure what others may or may not be using for safety gear. PK
woahroger
I normally just ride with shin guards but ditched them when i swapped my shindigger pedals for some plastic bmx ones.
dngr2self
Its worth a try. I used to use 661 Veggie shin pads but as it turned out I took more more hits to the knees. Some people like to ankle braces but it comes down to personal preference at the end of the day.

The knee braces I'm asking about would be more like these. Yes they would offer skin pretection but are more focused to preventing wrecked knee ;igaments and internal damage if the knee is wisted. The ones in the link I have. http://www.asterisk.com/buy/protection/cell-knee-protection-system.html PK
psiron
I think you may find mx knee braces will impede your trials riding. If you are worried about your knees then the best thing you can do is try to keep the muscles around the knee strong I find road riding and mtb'ing are excellent for keeping the strength around the knee joint. In the 2 years that I've been trials riding I've never twisted my knee, but I do find I have stiff knees the day after which is ok if I warm them up and stretch them a bit just before I ride. I don't use knee pads or shin pads unless I'm trying something new and the scar tissue on my shins is testament to the times when I tried something new and didn't use them...... I hope some of this helps, advice from another old timer..good luck!
dngr2self
Its worth trying. Knee injuries are quite common as I'm sure you know so anything to prevent that is worth a shot.I've heard knee wraps for weight lifting are quite good as well actually. PMK
Since I have them, and the pedaling is not like road riding or xc mtb, I will see how they are when riding around the house. I'll report back and let you know. PK
Ali C
Don't bother with braces unless you've had an injury and have weak muscles. Wearing a brace will do the work normal healthy muscles would normally do, the muscles would weaken if they are not being used meaning you'll eventually become reliant on using the brace and give a higher chance of injury when you decide to stop using it. As has been said, get the muscles strong for less chance of injuries. my safety equipment is usually just a helmet, I'll use gloves if its cold or if I'm sweating and occasionally a shinpad if I'm trying tailwhips.
