GyTrials
Will a koxx/ try all rear rim fit in the back of an inspired hex ? Will the brakes still fit
isitafox
Says on Tarty that the maximum rim width is 38mm unless you use Tensile offset mounts
Luke Rainbird
I ran a 47mm rim in the back of mine for a ride or two as it was all I had at the time of the build, but it required Tensile offset mounts which slipped like hell and the thinnest slivers of pad you can imagine. Not worth the hassle at all unless you have those bits knocking about in the spares box.
Mark W
It does depend partially on how old the frame is - I seem to remember that some of the earlier aftermarket frames came with slightly wider mount spacing compared to the standard frame... If you've got the frame already though, it'd be worth measuring the brake mount spacing and comparing it to the measurement/advice on the TartyBikes page
Paperclip
On my old hex I found that the tryall washer less mounts gave the best pad clearance while still being decent. I'm not a fan of the offset mounts. I ran a tryall 47-48mm rim for a month no problems (Obviously without brand spanking new pads). You have a pair of good options though for any rider with a 36 or 32h hub you can buy a viz or echo rear rim that are about 44mm wide and that was perfect on my build before I changed frame.
GyTrials
Anyone got a suggestion for a rim around 35 mm?
JKH
I used a Alex DX-32 and Echo mounts on mine and it worked perfectly.

alanczik
Spank Spike is it good for hs 33 / v brake ?
toad_master45
pretty sure the spank spike is disc only
LEON
Technically it's disc only, all the logos run onto where your pads would be too. But that part of the rim is pretty flat so it should work no problem, I'm sure Ali did it once. But like Bing said, DMR Backlines are great, 35mm too and pretty bombproof, and with a proper braking surface.
Pete.M
It's hard to get the backline rim at the moment though, particularly in 26" it seems. Apparently they don't make it any more.
LEON
I've got one But I don't think I wanna sell it, useful I know.
Mark W
The Spanks are quite a bit stiffer than the Backlines (at least my Backlines vs my Stiffys were), which on a 26" would probably be more noticeable. Ali ground his rim and just let the pads wear to the shape - still worked well.
alanczik
but does the peds need clear surface or the paint still have a good braking ? and also: does rimes that's not anodized (like sun rims rhino lite) wear out the black paint?
