cunny
Hi all, just thought id post up to see if anyone can help me, my front hope is perfect , plenty of bite and hold but as for the back.. it's not bad don't get me wrong! But no bite what so ever? Is it because a longer hose more fluid ? It's had a fresh bleed, I'm used to maggies so not sure on how to get the perfect set up? Any help appreciated, cheers matt
isitafox
Could be the pads or rotor are contaminated? Pads may be glazed over? How old and what type are they? If you need some new ones then I'd highly recommend the Jitsie pads!
cunny
Hmm could be! They're the 2013 model and hope techs:) always known my way around Maggie's but not so sure on hopes! oh okay then cheers for that! when I got it it was the same thought I'd leave it for abit as didn't want to mess around with it too much, bled it and still the same! Pads have plenty of meat on them but like you say, could be contaminated! Would that be just new padsjust or a rotor as well?
isitafox
You would probably get away with new pads as long as you give the rotor a good clean (don't use car disc brake cleaner as it contains oil!)
cunny
Okay then thank you! I think I'll give a set of new pads a go and see what happens! What's the best way of cleaning the rotor?
isitafox
Personally I'd just attack in the sink with some washing up liquid though might be best asking Tarty's advice when you order pads (assuming you're gonna try the Jitsie ones). kevind
Have you aligned the brake mounts on the frame so it sits parallel with the rotor. Hope do a tool that aligns the caliper mounting face. I do this on all the frames and forks and it makes a huge difference.
jnthebiker
Give this a go before you buy pads. If you ride your bike down a hill or put it on a treadmill or some other way of spinning the rear wheel fast, and drag the brake till its hot, then pour cold water on the pads and rotor, it makes a world of difference! Also, if you boil the rotor and pads in distilled water, it makes a world of difference. I'd say, boil, then drag. jnthebiker
