tdubz
Which size kmc 610 do i need to go through a rohloff tensioner? Is it the 1/8 or the 3/32? Thanks Tom
Blake
3/32Actually the 610 is thin regardless so it doesn't matter
tdubz
Thanks More riders on tarty site seem to run the 3/32... Any reason for that?
Blake
No idea mate think they just run it because they all know it works

Vivian-Trial
1/8" chain is used on most single-speed bicycles, and bicycles with internal gearing. 3/32" chain is used on derailer equipped bicycles that have more than 3 speeds. Exactly, so why does everyone seem to think a thinner chain is stronger these days?
monkeyseemonkeydo
Exactly, so why does everyone seem to think a thinner chain is stronger these days? They're not stronger they're just no weaker for a lighter weight. If you run a 1/8" chain for the sake of it you're just carting round extra metal for no reason. ZArgrave
Exactly, so why does everyone seem to think a thinner chain is stronger these days? Or in your case a chain that could move small countys jake
N.Wood
Exactly, so why does everyone seem to think a thinner chain is stronger these days? Do they? Only difference is roller and pin width, plates are identical. But anyway, Z610HX is all good.
casualjoe
A 1/8" can move side to side more on the sprocket, putting uneven loading on the pins and therefore more wear on the rivets. This is 100% fact maybe.
J.KYDD
610 is 3/32" 510 is 1/8" Reason most riders is use the 610 is because that is the same size as the singlespeed freewheels, chainrings and sprockets we all use. There's nothing to be gained in using the wider 1/8" chain

This is 100% fact maybe. To add a bit more 100% engineering fact, the longer pins also allow more leverage and therefore flex leading to a 0.2% increase in run-up distances. Martin Direske
Just for those who are interested: I used to run a KMC Koolchain 810 (the slightly smaller version of the common 710) in combination with the Rohloff tensioner on the Skye. It worked out with no issues. Might be helpful for those who won't rely on other chains than the Koolchain, just like me Edited September 22, 2014 by Martin Direske

Maybe between the z610 and 510 yes... But not compared to other chains. I'll be very very surprised if my chains plates were anything smaller than triple the width of the kmc chains.
