trialingtank
Hi everyone I'm getting back into the trialing scene hopefully after a few years away due to injuries etc When I was last doing it, I was doing BMX trialing. I am 6 foot one and 16st (muscle mainly) I currently have 2 bikes, a 26" wheel dirt jump bike which is used for light downhill etc and I have a 20" top tube bmx. Now I really want to get back into trials as I used to love it and want to get my skills back up to scratch The dirt jump bike I have is a Voodoo Shango with upgrades cranks, bottom bracket, pedals, front sprocket and chain. Really good bike but full cromoly frame and forks so heavy as hell! And long chain stays The bmx isnt anything fancy......I was wondering though whether to fit a long trial stem on it and wide flat bars? Or would I really be better getting a dedicated trial? I see Onza's s/h for sub £200 so I could upgrade slowly as I could afford.....
Clownbike
Get a cheap second hand dedicated trials bike for sure! It just so happens I have 2 that are up for sale. They're slightly older style geometry, which would give you a good balance between the street stuff and pure trials. I'm based near Reading - if you're local come up and have a try! They will be much more cost effective than a budget onza! Check out Neil's Big Sale thread in the For Sale section and drop me a line 07515030960. Even if you didn't go for mine I would still recommend a second hand trials bike! Neil

trialingtank
Just wanted to upload a picture of my DJ bike Its a really nice bike to ride downhill, and its not bad to cycle moderate distances either The mixed colour scheme isn't to everyones taste I understand, but I decided when I started to upgrade parts, that I would go for a multi-colour scheme The front forks look long for a DJ I know, and yes they are 26" wheels! I think a 29" wheel would actually fit up front More importantly though, does everyone agree the geometry look completely wrong for any form of trials? Oh and also, the bike weighs 16kg...... Asides from its sitting on Maxxis High Roller super tackys (will run a harder compound in the rear when its replaced), which obviously do get worn out quickly on the road, I want to keep it setup for off road down hill fun. Thats why I am looking into a proper trial bike, but I just wondered what people thought of the bikes geometry Edited September 10, 2014 by trialingtank
lifes-a-trial
In what way?
trialingtank
Does the geometry of the bike look ill suited to trials? It has a longer fork and longer rear stayd than the dmr dj bikes I believe
waybe2014
This is the bike that think bikes uses for its trials tutorial video's. One issue is if you fit trials forks the already low bb will be even lower Think Bikes Tutorials - 10 - Back Hops: Edited September 11, 2014 by waybe2014
trialingtank
Yeah I've seen that before When I see trials riders riding mods or stocks, they can balance nicely on the back wheel. Even in that video, they constant seem to be pedal kicking just to keep the front up :/
