niconj
I know that this question has been posted already and I know the differences between the two as well but I was wondering if anyone has used both on an Echo frame and can tell me whether a 4 bolt really is necessary. I used the frame with no booster and the flex was way too much for my liking. Hold was horrible as well. Oh and before you ask... I have to go HS33 on the rear as this happened to my rear brake today and I will have to wait a long time for Shimano to tell me that it actually was my fault and not the 1 month old brake. upload_2014-5-5_11-59-11 by niconj, on Flickr Not my photo but exactly the same happened. ClarkeHutchison
I have used both on my echo trial 24", A 2 bolt booster is more than enough, you will have next to no flex and your brake will feel nice and snappy. A 4 bolt just makes setting the brake a nuisance and that amount of stiffness is not needed. I actually felt that i had better hold and bite when using the 2 bolt. Also I would recommend the trialtech carbon booster although the material is quite soft when tightening the bolts. Mark W
If you use the little washers they're supplied with you shouldn't usually have any issues with the bolt heads digging in or anything like that
cwtrials
I actually prefer a 4-bolt on echo frames. Even with the 4-bolt if flexes. My bike with v-brakes actually has two boosters.

niconj
Looks like a good time to give a Hope a try! I know I know but I still have the Racing Line brake and don't want to wait too long now. Also I would recommend the trialtech carbon booster although the material is quite soft when tightening the bolts. Does he Trialtech booster come with longer bolts for mounting or only those washers? Mark W
The latest SL booster just comes with the booster, washers and spacers - no bolts.
niconj
The latest SL booster just comes with the booster, washers and spacers - no bolts. Oh crap. How long do the bolts have to be?
Mark W
The answer to that depends on the type of brake clamps you're using, which is also why they don't come supplied with bolts any more. There's some more info tucked away about it here in the Additional Information box.
