isitafox
Fitted some new pistons the other day then went to bleed my brake last night and even when I was bleeding it the lever wasn't returning fully, any ideas why? Seeing how i've fitted new pistons and seals is it worth fitting a new lever piston as well in case the spring has had it or is there some other cause I'm missing? bing
Yes. For the small price they are, its worth doing. Think I did my old mono trial lever piston and all seals for about a Tenner off chain reaction
isitafox
I think before I do anything else I'm gonna take the new pistons out and make sure the seals are well greased with some silicone lube, refit them then rebleed it and see how that goes
AdamR28
Is it possiblev the previous owner has f**ked the brake in some way? Such as bleeding it with mineral oil? I've never seen a sticky Hope lever other than for that reason, even ones that are closing in on 20 years old!
isitafox
Could be a possibility, is it fixable or past it??
AdamR28
Perfectly fixable, would just need new seals.
isitafox
Will pop the caliper pistons out again, regrease them and try another bleed and if that fails I'll probably stick it in the post to you for a service then!
bing
Pop them out Dave, and the master cylinder piston and seals, and blather the lot with solvent brake cleaner, to get any traces of shite out
AdamR28
Nah don't use grease, just a bit of dot fluid is all you need. If you think the problem is in the lever, sort that first or you're just wasting your time
isitafox
I've found a solution, it's a brown envelope with the Tartybikes address written on it. With the addition of some stamps I think the problem will be taken care of!
