onzatpro09
So I was out riding and I managed to snap the axle of my right hand echo TR platform pedal. I now have the problem of getting the rest of it out. How would I go about doing this? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Joe. weirdoku
You mean the rest out of the pedal itself or the crank?
onzatpro09
I mean get the rest of the axle out of the pedal body Sorry it wasn't clear.
MartMini
6mm allen key, remove the cap from the other side. Then you'll need a 9mm socket, and a pair of mul-grips to remove the nut from the end of the axle
onzatpro09
I know how to remove the axle if it wasn't damaged (which seems to be what you're describing?) but can't because when I turn the socket, the axle spins with it and I can't get a purchase on the axle because it has snapped half way into the body :/
MartMini
ha ha, me being a moron. i cut the middle out the body of mine, so i was thinking of that instead
Josh_Helliwell
How deep is the rest of the axle in the pedal body? I'd suggest going to bearing/industrial supplies/ good tool shop and getting a set of 'easy out'. You drill a hole in the middle of the snapped axle, and then the easy out is very course revers thread that you screw into it, therefore loosening the remaining axle? Try that if no one else can give you a better solution?
MartMini
if you use a pin punch, you could tap the axle out with the bearing attached?
dezmtber
2nd that. Remove the m6 end cap and tap the whole axle and bearing out. Then remove the broken axle off the bearing and retaining nut.
onzatpro09
Thanks guys, that worked a charm! The most difficult bit was getting the nut off of the axle once it was out. I had to file some flats onto it and put it in the vice
Chester123
I love this thread, that exact same thing happened to me with the exact same pedals ages ago and i couldn't for the life of me get the axle out so i gave up but I'm going to try hit it out Edited August 5, 2014 by Chester123
