stirlingpowers
For positive tests in 2011 and 2012 at the World Championships. Does anyone know more about this, i.e. was it some stupid medication error he made or was it some substance one does not ingest accidentally? craigjames
Seems odd that it's taken this long for positive tests to come to light and something to be done about it... Any other sport it takes days/weeks; not years! Is he still injured or is this connected to why he isn't in Pra Loup?
craigjames
Taken from: http://www.uci.ch/Modules/BUILTIN/getObject.asp?MenuId=&ObjTypeCode=FILE&type=FILE&id=Nzk5OTY&LangId=1 Looks like any titles or events won in that time are null and void. Seems like an easy one to accidently take, but then should really know better.
stirlingpowers
According to Tribalzine, he was in Pra Loup, but not in time for the quarter finals. He was devaluated to 17th or something the day before that, so that it was required for him to enter the quarter finals to qualify, but apparently the news did not reach him in time. stirlingpowers
So it is some substance he could have taken to treat some swelling after an instect bite. Edited July 27, 2014 by stirlingpowers
HippY
and here starts the fun part: was it just minimal amount to heal or enough to boost your performance? And why would you dope on a smaller world championship as trials?
craigjames
It's not really the point that it could be in bite creams or whatever, Chris Froome got into bother with using Prednisolone just before this years Tour de France and was lucky to get away with it. It's on the banned substance list, doesn't matter what sport you participate in; if you're at the top you'll be under scrutiny and with the UCI you're bound to be tested with all the troubles they've had. To get caught twice is just careless, once you could put down to ignorance about the substances (although he's been competing at the top for long enough); but twice is just daft. These athletes are serious about their training and what they eat, they should be just as careful with the medications they take.
Mark W
Any other sport it takes days/weeks; not years! That's just how the UCI rolls...
