benv
Hi, I've just bought a used monty m5 and want to change the discs for rim brakes. Guess I can take off the discs and use same hubs ? Been looking on tartys and racing line seem over twice the price so I guess they are the best. Any others that are good and reliable that people can recommend ? Thanks
JJ Leigh
no, with a disc hub you just wont be able to fit magura's for me the new racing line levers feel like they have LOADS of reach, but the pistons in the slaves move at exactly the same time unlike magura's but to be honest im doing spins all the time so i dont notice it haha
benv
I thought the hub would be ok as rim is in same position, didn't know though
JJ Leigh
im joking haha, and it should be fine its just a hub with with no disc. i know a guy who runs a hope pro 2 evo on the back of his echo 24 so if anything a disc hub should be fine, i used to have one too so dont see why not bro
benv
Ha ha, I've had a look round for the pro race hubs non disc and can't find any info on them. I've seen different year hs33, any ideas which ones to go for ?
HippY
Ha ha, I've had a look round for the pro race hubs non disc and can't find any info on them. I've seen different year hs33, any ideas which ones to go for ? `04 they are strong as hell as they made of metal. I had it and unless you are a professional brake repairer, you will not really like them. `05 they are widely used and liked levers as the modern version of 04- tried them, solid as hell `10 well, some people use them, but they are not considered to be as good as previous two- no opinions `14 they are the new ones, they are powerfull, look cool, but lever tend to snap and feels spongy. I had it, and I loved it Honestly, loads of opinions will be here, but I would go for something like a Racingline or Clean. I mean we are talking about a £2.5 K bike, I would not really put an old and heavy brake.
dngr2self
I like the 04 and 05 Maguras. They're reliable and tried and tested. I haven't tried the newer ones though or any of the other brands but considering I've never had any problems with the older ones I've never felt the need to change. Everyone has different experiences with brakes though so you'll end up with a lot of different opinions and as a result, probably end up more confused. Was just seeing if one stood out to be the ones to go for as only used dual discs

benv
I'm liking the look of these and don't seem a bad price either, thoughts ? http://www.ukbikestore.co.uk/product/383/hs33_trials/magura-hs33r-trial-rim-brake.html

Which was just the same. They were made for mountain bikes, it was the thing to have for xc back in't day I think, before discs really took off.
benv
I see what your saying but as the bike is carbon I need to be careful with it all. I like the look of those as well. Apart from strength did you like them ?
HippY
I am still saying that your bike deserve something high end rim brake like a clean t13 or Racingline If I would buy a ferrari I would not put cheap brake pads and brake oil in it. benv
The clean is only the lever and I'm not sure the racing line would be any better than the one I'm looking at as there is so much flex in the frame
JJ Leigh
flex? i would have thought carbon would be really damn stiff!
benv
No there's definitely more flex than aluminium

They make the brakes feel soooooooo much nicer. benv
The levers look nice, I'll have a look at the 05 hs33, thanks
Robin M S/c
Or any magura slave but use the tensile lever. Half the cost of racing line. 3 finger blade
