TOMTRIALS123 Posted June 18, 2014 Report Share Posted June 18, 2014 Hello peoples, I have been trying to learn rear wheel hops for a few days now but I can only manage 3 on the spot. When doing them, I use an endo to help me lift the front wheel for the move but I can only do three hops before the front wheel lands back on the ground. If I try and lean further back and lift the front wheel more explosively, I simply lose my balance or fall off the back of the bike. Max F Posted June 18, 2014 Report Share Posted June 18, 2014 (edited) I'd say don't try to lean back more to get over the rear tyre but try to push the rear wheel foreward with a pedal kick to get it underneath you. *gentlydoesit Posted June 19, 2014 Report Share Posted June 19, 2014 (edited) Its the inertia coming from the endo that holds you in the upright position long enough so you can hop. Once that force has gone, if your not moving forward or backward you'll need incredible balance to keep the front wheel in the air. Its easier to follow the original force and hop backward, pedal kicking to keep you upright takes a lot of practice, how hard to push, body position, brake timing ect all need to be in unison. And then comes the stage of the practice in which you stop for a few minutes every time you practice. After that you look at the sky and practice some more; then you think about your life and practice again. Once you are done with a few months of that (possibly like half a year if you were as bad as me) start pedal-kicking, just drop your front wheel a little bit and kick. You DON'T need flawless perfect balance to do pedal-kicks, and as a matter of fact pedal-kicks was what helped me stay on the rear comfortably until I get tired. YES you will fall on your ass. YES you will hurt yourself. YES people will think you are a dumbass. YES it's frustrating when everyone else is sidehoping buildings next to you and you can barely hop on the rear wheel. YES there will be blood. YES you will consider quitting. Hmm, sounds like I learned it a little differently. I never used endos to get on the rear, I always used pedal kicks and picked this technique up quite quickly. You're right about the looking back part. Whenever I look at my not so old videos in my blog I laugh at myself and back then I felt like a king when I managed something new. benv Posted June 20, 2014 Report Share Posted June 20, 2014 What I found easiest way as I've just learnt them, was to just stand on bike and pull front up for as long as I could just to help me find my upright balance, once I could hold it for a while I then started to hop. Gave up the other way as I was hopping all over the place into things and landing on my ass a lot. Thats what worked for me just getting the balance before the hop, doesn't hurt as much when you come off as well, lol.
